The White Horse in Birstall is a potentially great boozer that fails because their ales taste ****ing dreadful. Expanding on that it's tragic that a village of Birstall's size has three (four / five if you include the Legion and the Social, which I don't) well average pubs.

***However the staff in the White Horse on most evening make up for it oi oi

White Horse is my favourite as you pointed out, the fanny, and good beer garden

Plough has a dog, but too cramped

Stanny is so rough they actually have signs up inside saying "Please stop smashing the place up".

I used to like you.

Come on, you've had a bad ale before surely? Like when you're having Chinese and your ex goes "don't have the lemon chicken you always have that try the ginger chicken" and it turns up, and its fvcking horrible, and that's partly why she's your ex.

Not saying Carling is the go-to, but at least you know Carling is a solid 4/10, whereas the guest ale with a dependable looking emblem turned out to be a 2/10.

Sure I've had a bad ale or two.  I was more offended by the implication that Carling is in any way preferable to drinking urine from some girl's yeast infection.

Had a pint in the Hind the other week. Did not taste right so I took it back. The ,landlord took a sip and said 'that would go better with fish and chips' It had reached the end of the barrel. It can depend on how well the ale is kept. If you continually have bad guest ales in a pub then there is something wrong  like not cleaning the pipes when changing.
