The People's Hero Posted 15 September 2005 Posted 15 September 2005 I've got a lovely cup of tea, a chicken, bacon and cheese club sandwich and four jam donuts. My life rocks. Now, be good phone and don't ring for twenty minutes.

Scow Posted 15 September 2005 Posted 15 September 2005 Jaffa Cakes are nice, but would be even better if they were made with milk chocolate. Dark chocolate is generally a no no. Too bitter.

Suffolk_fox Posted 16 September 2005 Posted 16 September 2005 Why are Jaffa cakes not biscuits? It has to do with VAT.. Biscuits and cakes are considered a necessity by UK law and are zero rated. Chocolate-covered biscuits however are a luxury and subject to VAT at 17.5%. McVities and HM Customs & Excise argued over whether the Jaffa Cake was a cake (no VAT) or a chocolate biscuit (lots of VAT). The argument had to be taken to a tribunal to be resolved. In the end McVities baked a 12" Jaffa Cake which convinced the tribunal Chairman of the general cakeiness of the Jaffa Cake. Hope this clears things up...
