Aus Fox Posted 20 February 2016 Posted 20 February 2016 Yer I have done it before at Sunday league level. Quit for similar reasons. This team is pretty strong though. They are in div 4 of the local saturday leagues (div 1 can lead to semi pro if you have the bankroll to input to buy a place.) So a decent standard. They have been promoted up from div 8 (where you have to start) up to div 4 in 5 years of being set up, I guess that shows the type of characters you have in the squad. The reason why there looking for a take over of roles is because the current guy is trying to manage and play at the same time and it's not really working. I guess not much needs changing, more they just need an extra person on the sidelines to call the shots during a game. They also only do 8 a side games as training and now feel to move forward they need some input. This where my coaching badges come into play. Do it! It's better to regret something you did do, than something you didn't do. Back yourself and keep us updated with how you are going.
Foxhateram Posted 20 February 2016 Author Posted 20 February 2016 Really enjoyed that today. Gave top of the league a run for their money despite losing out in the end. Was introduced as the assistant coach which was pretty cool. Made a change in the formation late in the go which nearly allowed us to bring it back.
Foxhateram Posted 29 February 2016 Author Posted 29 February 2016 Second game in charge. I was forced to play 90 mins due to low numbers this week. Spent hours calling around people to try and raise a side through the week. We just scraped a side together. Drew 2-2 we conceded in the 88th minute. Gutted was an understatement. But considering our 44 year old manager played after hip surgery and I had to play 90 mins after not playing much at all for years. I'm quite pleased really. Lost one, drawn 1. Not bad.
Manwell Pablo Posted 1 March 2016 Posted 1 March 2016 Great motivational speech col! He is right to be fair it's a pain the arse. I've been involved with loads of Saturday and Sunday teams over the years with varying responsibility from just playing to pretty much doing everything in the short term and it's certainly a lot easier to just turn up and play. A lot of the lads that do have no appreciation for how much work goes on behind the scenes. Could well be calling it a day permanently at the end of the season as I'm that tired of it I can't even be bothered to play anymore.
DillonLive Posted 3 March 2016 Posted 3 March 2016 Talk to your wife first.. I'm sure she will support you whatever your decision is.
Nick Posted 3 March 2016 Posted 3 March 2016 Get her involved. They'll be changing room and kit cleaning, stuff that'll need ferrying around, tea and coffee requirements, training equipment collection, flip chart stuff and whiteboards - there's loads for her to get her teeth into.
