To play and manage a football team or not

Just been offered the opportunity to manage and coach a men's 11 a side team. Which means I can finally do my level 3 award (uefa B).

Only issue is, my workING life is pretty manic right now and I don't see the wife much as it is and she has just outright disgraced the idea of me being away all day in a Saturday and then working on a Sunday therefore not seeing her much.

Life decisions are always best made on FT so have fun!

Do it mate. You wife will hopefully always be there, these type of opportunities don't come alONG everyday.

If your relationship is strong, your missus will support you fully. Might bitch now and then, but if you are happy, won't she be as well? Just make sure you give her everything she needs when you are together.

Good luck.

Is it Manchester United?

Poison chalice that! Nah its non league but a worthy opportunity non the less. Have a few contacts at Torquay and Exeter that have said they could potentially find me paid coaching working if I got my level 3. But to do that you need to be managing a men's 11 a side team.

I do it mate and have done it with one team for 9 years.

I took a break from it but got offered a job managing a team in the South Midlands.

It is thankless task and you get alot of ups and downs plus you will not believe some of the problems you have to take on board.

Its hard but when it goes well its great!

Good luck and I admire you for considering it.

You need to tell your wife

(Aggressive) "Things have been going okay out there but I expect a much better showing in the second half."

Wife comes first.

Is there a way you can cut back on work a bit?

Yer agreed wife does come first. But in the long run if it leads to a decent paid coaching job I would be working less than I am now teaching and earning the same or better. It would just take a lot of time input now to get there.

Trying to get the wife to see that it's all part of a long term journey. But understandably she doesn't want to lose my time with her in the short term.

Decisions, decisions.

Get her a season ticket.

Understand her point of view but if she's against you doing this there's probably some other problem with your marriage (sorry to give you the bad news!)

alternatively get her pregnant.

My best man at my forthcoming wedding used to manage a Sunday League side. Just a decent, local team. He gave it up in the end...having become utterly pissed off with constantly having to chase up lads to play, others just not turning up, the very petty rules of the FA and all that type of thing. In the end, he said it just wasn't worth the crap he had to take.

Yer I have done it before at Sunday league level. Quit for similar reasons. This team is pretty strong though. They are in div 4 of the local saturday leagues (div 1 can lead to semi pro if you have the bankroll to input to buy a place.) So a decent standard. They have been promoted up from div 8 (where you have to start) up to div 4 in 5 years of being set up, I guess that shows the type of characters you have in the squad.

The reason why there looking for a take over of roles is because the current guy is trying to manage and play at the same time and it's not really working. I guess not much needs changing, more they just need an extra person on the sidelines to call the shots during a game. They also only do 8 a side games as training and now feel to move forward they need some input. This where my coaching badges come into play.
