Guest Papasmurf Posted 14 July 2016 Posted 14 July 2016 The name isn't going to help it's historical status. Needs to be renamed Filbert Way and we can all pretend that the Walkers and the King Power never happened. Some of my non Leicester supporting mates from uni still only refer to it as the crisp bowl.
stripeyfox Posted 14 July 2016 Posted 14 July 2016 There is literally nothing iconic about our stadium, nor I think will there ever be in architechtural terms. There is nothing to mark it out from any number of other stadia built in the last 20 years or so.
stripeyfox Posted 14 July 2016 Posted 14 July 2016 It's built on Freeman's Wharf and was called that right through construction up until the Walker's sponsorship (and well before Filbert Way was ever thought up). I'm hoping the ground expansion gives it a more unique, identifiable look... if that ever happens FreemansWharf would be my choice of name too. In fact in Football Manager I always edit the stadium name to this before I start!
Sol thewall Bamba Posted 14 July 2016 Posted 14 July 2016 No, too many look the same, that didn't happen to old stadiums that you quoted, they were all individuals, a fact I never knew until the other week, Everton were originally at Anfield before moving to Goodison, then Liverpool formed. Well all the grounds he mentioned there looked a lot different when they were first built. In 50 years the KP could look totally different and a lot more unique.
