White seats at KP removed

Recommended Posts

I went by today and had another look through those gates, the fox looks far too white to be the old seats cleaned up, plus to the left of the picture are cages full of old seats, looks to me like they've replaced them with new ones, the blue ones look new as well from where I was stood. Could be the sun though.

I can see two shades of blue on the seats there nothing looks to have changed?

Would be nice to see the seats one colour though.

Spoke to a contact at the club on Friday, white seats are being replaced with new ones, all blue seats are being treated to restore them back to original colour. About time, looked really faded and tatty over recent years.

You can see the treated seats in the corner below the blue covering. Should look much better when they are all done.

Usure if these pictures have been posted, I saw these on Twitter from around 5 days ago. Should look smart when it is all done.

Saw similar images too. Looking very nice so far. The only thing that came to mind though, was that I wonder if they will do a stand at a time? Not sure if there will be enough time to do all four stands, unless of course they've already started with them all. I know that Stoke are doing the same as us I believe, but implementing the newly coloured seats a stand at a time.

I like the shabby, faded look. It's part of the aging process and gives it a more 'lived in' feel. Much like the concrete is becoming stained by the thousands of feet that have stood on it.

It's called character.

I get that. I hope in the future though we will contiune to see more character added to the KP.  Hopefully it will feel more like 'home' year on year, we do well to create the atmosphere we do. UFS have well and truly re-established our Kop again since their arrival in 2013. Flags & Tifo's all add to it feeling special on matchdays, IMO it feels like the stand has got real soul to it now.

My bedsheets aren't dirty, they've got 'character'. ;)

Beginning to look so much better, never understood why they removed the fox head from the right hand side of the family stand and Kop makes it look a bit un symmetrical

Do you think in, say, fifty years time the KP and other modern stadiums will be seen as treasures of a previous football era in the way that places like Goodison Park and Elland Road are now?

No, too many look the same, that didn't happen to old stadiums that you quoted, they were all individuals, a fact I never knew until the other week, Everton were originally at Anfield before moving to Goodison, then Liverpool formed.

I reckon so, and you make a good point there. The history we have established at the ground already given the years we've been there, is very good IMO. If we contiune to add history to the roots of the stadium (Cups, success, european nights, crowd atmosphere's etc) it will help it in years to come to have that 'historical feel' to it I think.

Places like Goodison Park and Elland Road like you mentioned, they have that treasurable English stadium feel about them due to their club success, age of the stadiums and also it's unique stadia name. The KP Stadium is still a new stadium, in comparison to other grounds across England.

It's true to say that Derby, Leicester, Reading and Stoke all have similar stadiums, so it perhaps won't quite have the feel of the older grounds which were more unique in their design, but I think individually they will all have something about them in fifty years time.

Will people see one direction as "classic" music in 80 years time? No, cos it's shite.

Much like st Mary's is shite. It's still shite regardless of age

The name isn't going to help it's historical status.

Needs to be renamed Filbert Way and we can all pretend that the Walkers and the King Power never happened.

This is the point I was trying to make in my above post. Iconic grounds tend to have stadia named after unique club names, streets, or the surrounding areas. Filbert Street, Goodison, Anfield, St James Park, Villa Park etc.

Filbert Way would be an iconic stadia name.

It's built on Freeman's Wharf and was called that right through construction up until the Walker's sponsorship (and well before Filbert Way was ever thought up).

I'm hoping the ground expansion gives it a more unique, identifiable look... if that ever happens

Ah didn't know that, interesting & thanks for letting me know. I just assumed it's original name was going to be Filbert Way and then it changed to Walkers, that was my understanding but interesting to hear something different.

Agree about the expansion. I can see it (hopefully) happening in the very near future, and you're right it would add more of a unique feel to the stadium. I've wanted to see the Kop as a double decker in our expansion, and it sounds as if it could be possible with the East Stand joint together as two tiers.

I've always loved calling it Raw Dykes Road, this is often the name I give if I get asked where Leicester play over here.

Since our new found success and fame it's harder to bring up and convince people.

I doubt it unless there's major redevelopment. People like Elland road and goodison park because they're impressive, unique stadiums.

Ours just isn't. It's very basic and boring.
