You think arnautavic re signed for less than that kind of money when shaquiri is on 65k ?? all newly negotiated contracts for this season will take into account the new sky money
Rob1742 Posted 18 October 2016 Posted 18 October 2016 World class players have the mental ability to carry on year after year and recreate season after season. We were lucky enough to have a hungry group with the right ingredients to create an unforgettable season at a particular time. But these are not world class individuals, and there are many outside influences that will ensure these players find their level again. Mahrez is an exception as his natural ability is outstanding and he will find himself somewhere else, but last season was never going to be recreated with the players that are there. its a natural thing to do for most people, you win something, you relax and light a cigar. But for some like Messi it is an inbuilt mechanism to constantly be number one that is so rare to find. For me, it is about how we find our level without crashing. Can we create a group that will be capable of competing in the Premier League. You can't have a go at them, they are going through a perfectly normal process after achievement, but it's how we adapt and build a group to compete that is important. The fans are the same. Look at the ticket situation and those desperate for tickets last season are not so bothered this season. It's the same mentality. I think the Champions League is a little different, but the same mental situation applies. These players have never played in this arena and they will be desperate to do well in the best team competition in the world. I think that is why we are seeing such good performances. I think Ranieri though is good, he will get the best out of the situation and is experienced enough to ensure it doesn't go right to the bottom. But remember the ONeill / Taylor era, the latter was not capable of dealing with a team going backwards, and you can see what happened there.

At the same time, many many posters on here I suspect were more than happy that their heroes signed hugely lucrative new contracts to keep them at the club. We can't then now play the 'little old Leicester' card anymore, it won't wash. Either people ARE happy that we now have hugely paid superstars at the club or they aren't, and if they weren't why not say so at the time? The reality is, I think, that our transfer dealings over the summer are looking so bang average at the same as the 'top clubs' this season look so much better that we've not progressed as much as we could have done. To have just made sure we signed Silva and Keane for instance would I feel, make this team look so much better whilst pushing the other squad players to strive harder. I don't think it's complacency, money or whatever, I simply think we have not improved the squad enough. Makes me laugh how people flippantly say 'oh if we had just signed player X or player Y etc etc...' Have you ever considered that maybe it just wasn't possible? That we did everything in our power and it didn't quite come off over the summer? This is not FIFA. This squad is only Kante away from being a league winning team. We're never going to spend the same as City, Utd, Chelsea etc, so it was inevitable that this season would be more difficult. If anything I feel the investment we have made has been partially to blame for our poor performances. We're now having to accommodate Slimani and Musa on top of an already league-winning strike force comprising Vardy, Okazaki, and Ulloa. We've had to justify the money we spent on Slimani and Musa and this has resulted in less pitch time for Okazaki who, for me, is pivotal to the way we approach football matches. Anyway, perspective required as mentioned by those on the forum with the benefit of presence of mind. We haven't lost at home in over a year and we're top of our Champions League group. Let's not let our success last year become our downfall. We can't let that become our benchmark. If we do, we can only be disappointed, and that will not generate a positive atmosphere. Much of our success last season can be put down to a collective feeling of momentum and positivity. It can and will work the opposite way if we don't operate with perspective.

Lets be brutally honest 90% have nothing to moan about as they only see home matches and it has been a long time since a stinker at home
