Due to the developed world... Tuvalu people will soon have no home.

Rest of the world take note, WE will have to take the climate refugees.

....or we just abandon them to their fate (or just take a handful of fortunates) while making platitudes about how awful it all is.

Apparently that's an option too.

Looking good...

Booster just blew up after first stage separation, but it was going to crash down and not be retrieved anyway.

Second stage looking good!

Assumed that was deliberate, apparently not!

Would assume a loss of control so they pressed the little red button, yeah.

Unfortunate, but other than that this has done very well. All 33 engines fired up this time and the hot staging worked well.

Thinking is the second stage is lost now too.

Well, it's an improvement on the first test and that's what matters. Sure it will be better (and hopefully less time between tests) next time.

I was out today and came back to the news. Falcon 9 lunched itself multiple times - they found out what was wrong and put it right...systematically eliminating the faults.

I'd be fascinated to see the state of the pad following the modifications.

OpenAI is reportedly set to name Emmett Shear as its interim chief executive just 48 hours after the chaotic firing of boss and co-founder, Sam Altman.

How tf is that even possible? lol

Can you possibly elaborate a little on why this isn't a good thing? I'm interested but don't know much about the particulars.

The new guy is twitch's ex boss. Guy built a video game platform without any competitors and it grew to such heights in spite of him and not because of him. Completely out of touch with content creators and users.

If he carries on the lalala attitude when AI is set to have investments and competition from all over, he'll be bad for OpenAI, really bad.

Got it, thank you.

A CEO who doesn't know what he's doing in charge of a big business in the most bleeding edge tech sector of our time (which if used poorly could have rather nasty consequences). I can see the concern.

Meanwhile..

Sam Altman is joining Microsoft, the tech-giant has announced, ending speculation he might return to OpenAI just 48 hours after his chaotic ousting.

Less than 48 hours later one of the biggest tech firms on the planet snatches the old ceo up.

Not to write a pre-emptive obituary of OpenAI, but it does go to show how you can go from "pausing paid sign-ups as too we've too many customers" to potential exodus of your key staff in a week.
