That somewhat escalated .
The Doctor Posted 19 October 2017 Posted 19 October 2017 Imagine a kid version of huth in the all positions rule "we know you're strong but immobile, but it's your turn to be the silky winger". Also, the extra player rule is proper Americanise the sport bollocks. What next, multi-ball?
Stadt Posted 19 October 2017 Posted 19 October 2017 The FA's development stuff has been ok over recent years but still not anywhere good enough, this is ridiculous. Coaching decision making is vital but literally trying to ban instructions? That's bullshit. If you're trying to coach kids to play in different systems or style of play then they'll need instructions, You coach decision making in training nut in game situations players often need individual guidance. Or for example a side is being overloaded in the middle, it makes sense for a player to be told what to do because if they either don't do anything or follow the player too far it's going to lead to poor consequences. I've not actually read too much bout these changes but at face value they're ridiculous.

There are, probably, a lot of truly average coaches out there that think shouting everyone out, stand him up, drop back... etc and all those cliches will not help players develop awareness and decision making they will just react to instructions. There was an interesting discussion around this topic on the "set piece menu" podcast last week it's worth listening to. I honestly don't know if these approaches will work, but I applaud any attempts to address the persistent failings of our grass roots youth football.
theessexfox Posted 19 October 2017 Posted 19 October 2017 I personally disagree with every rule on the list. I am presuming it is some form of joke.

The issue there is that the coaches aren’t good enough, banning shouted instructions is curing a symptom. From what I’ve read FA coaching courses are really lacking and they treat pressing as though it’s some sort of fad.

Whether these new rules will have any effect I don't know but I applaud anything that looks to change things and if the worst case scenario is that some of the dinosaurs coaching 2 banks of four quit in disgust then so be it. I know some of these "rules", such as everyone having to play every position, have been used successfully in other countries as part of a footballing philosophy rather than "rules"
