Jamie Vardy is ready to transfer the success of his V9 Academy to ladies football.

The team behind the Leicester City and England striker's project have opened talks with a Premier League club about hosting a ladies' academy for next summer.

The 31-year-old Vardy, who started out at Stocksbridge Park Steels before a fairytale rise to the Premier League with Leicester, devised the academy to help non-league hopefuls try and take similar steps up the professional ladder.

Now he wants the new project to give women a platform to impress and the chance to get into professional football in the women's game.

 

With Coventry City poised to sign 17-year-old Sam McCallum, his V9 academy has seen seven out of 42 hopefuls progress into the professional game already this summer, building on five graduates from his inaugural academy last year.

With the women's game turning professional, Vardy and his team want to provide the same opportunity for them in football.

The mantra behind the academy is to ensure every successful applicant is evaluated technically, tactically, physically and mentally so that they leave with an individual development plan to help them progress further.

I think this willl benefit the women’s games far more than it will the men’s game because women players generally have less opportunities to make it professionally with scouting not being as heavily invested in and simply less professional clubs about to play for
