My car needs new brake pads and discs. Anybody got any recommendations for a cheap and reliable garage? North side of Leicester preferable if possible.

These are that rarest of beasts - an honest garage (at least in my experience and they have five star Google review ratings)

Just be prepared for them to tell you you need more work doing.

All garages can be like that.

I use Evanders in Blaby, it might be too far for you but they've always been great for me. I'm always worried that as a woman a garage is going to try and rip me off, but Evanders have been fab. I use them for my MOT and servicing, and I can't fault them. They've only ever done what I've asked them to, their prices are reasonable, and they've never told me I need loads extra doing.

Yep, even the big main dealers try it on even when spending nearly £500 on a service.

Aren't main dealers the worst for that kind of thing?

I’ve only ever dealt with Sytner & Audi main dealers. Sytner not to bad, Audi on the other hand tried telling me I needed new pads & discs all round when I told them it had only just passed it’s MOT a month previously without any advisories they started backtracking.

Also they will video and send you it via e-mail showing you what should need doing.

Have Alfa’s still got the reputation of being unreliable?

I like the look of the Giulietta but always been a bit reluctant to look at one.

Jones and Burnham, off of Sanvey gate , or Glenfield autocare.

No I was joking really, I'm on my second Giulietta and I love it. I had a 2012 2 litre diesel but it got to over 120k so I traded it for a 2014 1.6 170bhp petrol with 70k on the clock and I absolutely love it. I think they're beautiful and they've never let me down. I only get about 30mpg but I only do really short journeys. It makes me smile every time I look at it, and I adore driving it.

Pretty sure Evanders has closed now.

For MOTs it has to be the Leicester City testing station place at Syston road east off of Catherine street. They don't do repairs so you believe what you get as they would make nothing from you having anything fixed. My car has got through every year I've gone there unlike any of my previous nearby haunts.

Has it? I didn't know that, haven't been since my last mot on my old car. It's a shame if it has

I use them too.

The link I gave you was a place I use for repairs, even though they do MOTs.
