Hero Policemen Who Attempted Vichai Helicopter Rescue

Just want to honor the brave policemen who attempted to rescue Vichai and the other four.  If things had turned out differently their quick action and split second thinking might have been the difference between saving them and not saving them.  I am sure they are completely gutted and inconsolate witnessing such a horrific scene.  They should be honored as it will take them a long time to recover from this.  This is the type of man we need on the force.

 

Leo Bruka, 27, a Leicester resident, saw the two police officers try to help crash survivors.

'One policeman ran straight away to the helicopter and he was trying to break the window of the helicopter.

'The other one was inside the car looking for something and then the next minute he had a fire extinguisher trying to prevent the fire.

'This was all going on for five to ten seconds and then there was an explosion and the policeman and all the three or four other guys that were trying to help but they just pulled back because the fire was going to hot.'

It has not yet been revealed whether the officer who got closest to the helicopter sustained any burns or other injuries but he has suffered 'trauma and shock', a police spokesman said.

Fully agree, it must have been very traumatic for them being so close yet unable to get them out before being beaten back by the flames. Very heroic of them considering the danger.

I really think the supporters, fans, football club and city need to make an effort to recognize and support the policeman who was trying to break the window of the helicopter.  He may easily be lost in the shuffle yet suffer tremendous long term psychological damage emotional damage that could even effect his career.  His heroic actions should be applauded, recognized and encouraged.  And would hate to lose a man like that from the force.

I think I read somewhere else that he was blown back by the power of the explosion but was physically okay.

A note to our own on this forum too in @Parafox who commented soon after the accident, clearly in a shaken state up by what they had just gone through.

You and your colleagues are superb professionals who fight for the lives of those in need, putting your emotions and sometimes even health on the line and everyone is truly thankful for your efforts and passion to do what you do on a daily basis, I don't want to roll out anything too much cliché but it wasn't your fault and we know you give it your best in every situation.

 

Same goes for the police who tried to get them out of the wreck. Thank you all
