Matt_Lcfc Posted 11 March 2019 Posted 11 March 2019 Wanted to take up a new sport for quite a while now as have a bit of time in the evenings. Quite simply can anyone tell me what boxing is like as a sport to take up? If anyone has done it or knows anyone that has, that’d be great
ForfoxsakePLchamlps Posted 11 March 2019 Posted 11 March 2019 It’s really enjoyable and you’ll be the fittest you’ve ever been. Love boxing training. Find a local club and sign up. Most gyms I’ve been to the people are always decent
RonnieTodger Posted 12 March 2019 Posted 12 March 2019 It's quite expensive, but it's great fun. In my experience, people have always been welcoming.
TheLittleBigMan Posted 13 March 2019 Posted 13 March 2019 Do it. You will get a lot fitter and it helps massively as a stress relief. Do some sparring too as long as it's with someone who knows their stuff. Awesome fun.
murphy Posted 14 March 2019 Posted 14 March 2019 I've never tried it but I'm led to believe that you might get punched in the face a lot. Why not try jogging?
HybridFox Posted 16 March 2019 Posted 16 March 2019 I also want to get into it massively to improve my fitness. An eye condition means I'll never really be able to take part in competition but from a pure training/workout point of view, I'm really up for it. But don't know how to go about it. Do I just sign up to a boxing gym? Any gyms in particular that are welcoming and will show begginers the ropes?
Izzy Posted 16 March 2019 Posted 16 March 2019 When I was a scrawny 16 year old I asked an older chap where I was working if he'd take me along to his boxing gym in Hinkley to try it out. The session started with a five mile run around the town and by the time we got to the gym, I was completely knackered. I just sat and watched them spar and decided then and there that it wasn't for me as I just wasn't fit enough. Big respect to people who box. I had no idea the levels of dedication and fitness required.
