UEFA Cup Group One Qualification Match

Ah - Don Revie's first game, preceded by the famous 85 man get together in Manchester.

‘I stood in the lobby of the hotel from 6pm to 11,45 to greet the players’. He tells them they’re not there to enjoy Manchester’s nightlife – ‘I told them if they did go out they would not be with us again’. Frank escaped out of a back entrance at 9.30. Several players ended up at Slack Alice’s. The following day Frank wore dark glasses to hide his ‘disco eyes’.

Why are Frank McLintock, Colin Appleton and Gordon Banks clasping hands like that?

The story behind the photo is that three days before the Cup Final, the wives of Appleton and Banks gave birth on the same day. McLintock's wife had given birth two days earlier.

This prompted secretary Eddie Plumley to say 'Let's hope we win 3-0'.

Didn't quite turn out like that.

Loved that place!  There was a ticket office in one of the upstairs rooms in that row of housing too, if i remember right.  Basically walked up the stairs of a terraced house 😂

Wasn't that the supporters club headquarters? Always remember walking up the stairs to pick up tickets for away games & book places on the supporters club coaches for away travel.

It may well have been a collection point rather than a ticket office.  I just remember picking tickets up there a couple of times when i was young.  Always thought it was unusual (in a good way) packed in among the houses

The houses came first. The club bought up a lot of those houses over the years with a view to knocking them all down and extending the Popular Side / East Stand.  That entrance you can see in the picture was built in 1963 when the road was still called Grasmere Street.

I believe they owned a few in the 60s but then sold them when in financial difficulties in the 70s then started to buy them back in the late 80s/90s. It was rumoured that they what they paid for one house was more than they got a for all the ones the sold earlier.

May be an image of 6 people, crowd and text that says "SOUTH STAND TICKETS ON SALE SK3 ENTRANCE SPION SPIONKOP KOP HOME SUPPORTERS ONLY S.K.3 SPION KOP TICKET PENN3 3 PEN N ONLY 212 POLCE SATS"

Filbert Street 1985.

I distinctly remember a very attractive female police officer telling me and my friends to f**k off when we volunteered to be frisked by her rather than the other officers right on that spot 😂
