LC/FC Posted 5 August 2019 Posted 5 August 2019 We also poached one of the best managers in Europe in the middle of some history making season for one of the biggest historical teams in existence for 9 million just because we wanted him and he could see the potential. And now we have literally held to ransom one of the richest clubs in the world by not budging on a single thing from day one in regards to Maguire. I'm not the one in charge of the club, making the choices and decisions everyday, running it to make it one of the elites. I'm just revelling in the joy of our rich and successful owners showing ambition that a lot of other clubs don't. I wouldn't want to swap us for the likes of say, Newcastle United or Southampton, who also have rich billionaire owners but just don't have the ambition of ours.

What I ask for is just what our late Chairmen said when we got promoted. To challenge. That's all I ask for. Each and every season to challenge. That's the way of our owners, who are themselves ambitious as hell and achieved more than they initially laid out to themselves. They wanted top 4 and ended up winning the thing. Do you think it's my appetite for glory is anything compared to the level that self-made billionaires have? We're building a world class training centre that rivals Man City and Tottenham. And I'm supposed to wind my neck in? And then think we're going to go back into the Championship?? That's exactly the small minded tiny thinking pessimistic that makes me wonder if we're watching same club evolve in the same way. Something about your reading comprehension must be missing as pressure on players and managers is part and parcel of the game anyway. We're currently in the midst of building our new side to try and challenge, buying Perez and Tielemans to make top 4 consistently so I'm not sure what bigger picture it is that you think I'm not seeing? Because I know from what I see in the team... We've got some damn good potential. And I hope the players realise that themselves. So I'm overly optimistic. But I was overly optimistic in 2015 and guess what happened! Alright, fair enough, not saying there's anything wrong with ambition, but blind optimism can lead to blind expectation and anyone going into next season thinking winning the Premier League is a fair expectation, is only going to invite disappointment and resentment towards the players unable to fulfil an unrealistic ambition.

Hang on a moment, mate... We're not Tottenham here
when_you're_smiling Posted 5 August 2019 Posted 5 August 2019 Here’s how we lined up in the first game of last season with (I think) Vardy having not featured much in pre-season after injuring himself with England. We’ll certainly have a better side put out on Sunday, but doubt it’s good enough to make up the difference of the top six. Everton should be stronger too when it comes to the battle for seventh.
