Deeg67 Posted 8 May 2019 Posted 8 May 2019 Given how young this side is, if we can bring back Tielemans (or a somewhat like replacement) and sign a winger who can actually play that position at a high level I think the Top 6 is realistic. The biggest worry may not be clubs 3-6 (who are collectively weaker than they have been in years) but that we'll have competition as we try and break in (especially from Wolves). I would also say retaining both fullbacks has to be a huge priority. Sell Harry if necessary to make sure those other things happen.
Footballwipe Posted 8 May 2019 Posted 8 May 2019 Not mad, nothing wrong with ambition, just feel it needs to be tempered. No panicking if it doesn't happen this season, no Rodgers out if we have one bad run of games. Would like Chilly, Maddison, Ricardo to give us one more season out of them. Someone mentioned it the other week, but this is Sunderland 5-2 exciting, and the last thing we need is being raided before we've seen what they can do. With a summer of planning, maturity of younger players and a bit of strengthening in squad depth, it could be time for a proper cup run, a seventh placed finish or breathing heavily down the necks of a top-six straggler. That could be Arsenal, Man Utd or Chelsea. Who knows how these things pan out, but so long as we do our job, they'll have to do theirs, and 2020/21 could be a European tour. Anyway, our last two Euro seasons have come after UEFA European Championships so it's written in the stars, ain't it?
Koke Posted 8 May 2019 Posted 8 May 2019 First we need to rectify our home form. Losing st home to Palace, Cardiff, Newcastle, Southampton, and even the current Man Utd, is unacceptable. The reason Arsenal are so far above us is because their home form is formidable. We need to learn to be flat track bullies. What we need: Tielemans A goal contributing winger (Ryan Fraser?) A decent second choice striker (Mitrovic?) That'll cost about £80-90m. So we need to sell to buy.

All the pundits have been tipping us for much greater things next season if we can keep this team together ( A big if ) Rodgers has been the best signing this club has made in years and the football media know it. If we keep all of our players and add two maybe three top quality players we will, in my opinion, make the top six.
Fightforever Posted 8 May 2019 Posted 8 May 2019 We need a quality winger and back up striker Also we are a vardy injury away from having a front line of Gray iheanacho and albrighton.
urban.spaceman Posted 8 May 2019 Posted 8 May 2019 as far as I’m concerned 4th will be up for grabs next season.
urban fox Posted 9 May 2019 Posted 9 May 2019 Everyone mentions hanging on to our players but lets not forget they are all on long contracts and we have shown in the past that we will not simply bow down to the so called big clubs any more. We don't have to sell if we don't want to. Yes the players can hand in transfer requests and spit their dummies etc but that does them no real favours in the long run and only damages their own reputations. If a player genuinely wants to leave for the right reasons, and the deal is right for the club then so be it, thank them for their service wish them well and wave goodbye. We certainly have the basis for an attempt on the top 6 with what we have got (I include Tielemans in that). A bit of strengthening in depth, some proper succession planning (Vardy wont last forever) and we can sustain a realistic challenge for a few good years to come. We have seen with the likes of Spurs that once you can build a decent side and start challenging, then it is easier to recruit to maintain that standard. This didn't happen after we won the league as it was till seen as a one off by many, our squad was already a relatively old one and our recruitment was poor but with an exciting young bunch of talent this should now be possible.
deep blue Posted 9 May 2019 Posted 9 May 2019 What strikes me about Spurs and Lpool's Euro success is that they can have their main strikers injured but still have several strikers capable of scoring, and ones who look likely to score when they do shoot. We only have Vardy who currently fits into that category. Unless our current forwards can step up then I think we need 2 more potent strikers. That implies that at least one will not get regular game time. Lpool & Spurs manage that scenario OK, but I think our most likely possibility of managing that, and to afford them in the first place, is to go for youngsters. It would be a bonus if someone stepped up unexpectedly from our academy.

Pasing the ball, controlling the game, flying WBs and wingers and sexy attacking football. I think we have the players and the manager to make Europe next season. There is no reason at the moment why we can't target 4th to 7th. Arse, Chelsea and Manure are wobbling and need dramatic upgrading that may happen, I'm sure changes will come but that doesn't mean those changes will work. The Arse seem far from the required standard and only have Europa League to entice top players. Manure are a mess, they have some very good players but no leaders and their management structure doesn't look good. Chelsea have looked fragile and unsure of who they are supposed to be, and if Hazard leaves they'll need a big name/player to step up for them. All three of those are vulnerable. Wolves, who have been better than us this season, look like they could be better than us next season too, Everton, Watford and West Ham will hopefully become a step behind us, as we progress to a higher level. What do we need? Not a lot. We have a great young squad filled with talented players. We need them to progress and learn through experience - but that is inevitable. At the back we have Kasper - that's not going to change, It's true I have my reservations, he's not top class, but he's good enough for us to challenge for Europe. The defense is starting to look good - especially from an attacking pov. Chilwell and Ricardo surrounding Evans and Maguire (with Soyunco and Benkovic as back up) is a youthful and talented back line. We need cover for Ricardo and Chilwell but in the starting places we're fine. Maybe Amartey/Albrighton can cover on the right and I think we look for someone to buy for the left. In Midfield I hope we continue with the four we've used in the last two games. Ndidi and Hamza are cover for our defenders whilst both can pass the ball forwards and N'didi should become a danger on set pieces. Tielemans and Maddison are looking absolute gems as attacking midfielders - and I've been really impressed with Maddison's defensive progression over the last 10 games. Obviously we stil need to sign Youri, but if we don't it'll be down to our own foolishness. If I were in charge I'd sign him up next Sunday, offering him a decent wedge whilst his thoughts are happy Leicester thoughts. As back up we have Mendy,Albrighton, Barnes and Gray. That's more than enough. Barnes has the possibility of maturing into an extremely dangerous attacker and unlike some of you I haven't given up on Demarai yet. And more importantly Rodgers sees something in him too. Upfront we have Vardy, We're unlikely to be able to sign a better striker than him and he's shown in the second half of the year that he still has what is needed to compete at the highest level. Just make sure he comes back at the start of the season fit and in fighting form. We are in desperate need of a quality back-up/alternative striker. Iheanacho could still turn into that - I think an off-season with Rodgers will bring about what we need but even if that is the case we still need another striker. Personally I'd sign Che Adams immediately now that B'ham are not getting promotion and I'd look for a senior striker who hasn't had the chance of a top half prem finish to add to our resources. There are some around who would see Leicester as a step up for the end of their careers. Finally we have Rodgers who seems to know what he wants and seems to be able to get it. I love the passing game but still worry that too many of our passes are backwards and not the incissive pass forwards. That was the difference between us and Mancs yesterday but I've seen us progressing on our little triangles as we go forwards. Chilwell has got to stop passing backwards to Maguire so often though. In defence I think we should stick with both N'Didi and Hamza covering our central route but we mustn't slip back into not charging out to challenge midfielders on the edge of the box. Yesterday was a little like the early Puel days when players were left open to shoot from 25 yards - we can't allow that - too many people can score from there. We also need to sort out our corners - defensively the zone looks horrible and we're not getting the knock downs. Plus I think we should ALWAYS leave someone up top. On attack for corners we have the height to worry teams or the guile with tielemans and maddison, that's improving but still too many wasted corners and set pieces. So that's my feelings. Europe is a distinct possibility and we should be in the fight for even the last CL spot. Europe is there for the visiting. what do you think? Am I Mad? Must be time for a re-quote. I reckon less of you will think I'm mad at the moment.

LC/FC Posted 4 August 2019 Posted 4 August 2019 Real talk though If you think you're mad, then I should probably be sectioned. Because unlike most fans forum posters, people with the small mind mentality... Ever since we won the league, we should be challenging every season. Now that might actually go against everyone's grain here because some of you still have that "Little Old Leicester" mentality. Some would still think we're bouncing up and down in the Championship, because it's just generationally it's just what they're used to. But me... Maybe there's just something that Vichai and Top has changed in me. I personally hate the little club, small team of 'let's just know our place' that the likes of Man Utd would have us perpetrate forever. Fuchs that. We've just rinsed them because we don't take no crap. We beat them and everyone 3-4 years ago when we took no crap, despite them and the media hoping that we'd bottle it, and we never did. Anyone that thinks we should only get 7th or 6th and feel lucky or know our place in the rankings..... YOU'RE ALL PATHETIC!!! That is the antithesis of #Fearless. I would rather be fearless and called delusional, on the chance we can repeat something amazing again and not give a fuch what anyone else thinks, than be stuck in the mediocre misery that slowly sank us down over the years. Leicester City, in my time, has always been at their best when we have the players, team, club that gives as good as we get. We can do the greats of Arsenal's 3-3. We did Man Utd 5-3. If you want madness... I'm your man. But at least I'd rather own my madness than be a chicken shit scaremonger, worried about other teams and how we should be just like them. Fuchs that. If anyone thinks we should ever be like another team or club, instead of being ourselves... They should hand in their fandom and go let their glory hunting true selves out. So mad... Nah, not a patch.
turkish14 Posted 5 August 2019 Posted 5 August 2019 I agree!! some on here will say your being unrealistic.... that we cannot and shouldn’t aim to compete with the bigger clubs, as they are bank rolled by Middle Eastern billions, or because they are located in the bright lights of London and Manchester. Or Because they have a history of winning trophies. But we did it 3 years ago, because we had a winning mentality a fearless attitude, and from the very top of the club down to the lower echelons everyone was united. The fans were truly awesome that season, that helped drive the players on the pitch. our players went into games ready to battle and believing we could win, and the fans soon followed. the reason we didn’t compete then on, was poor recruitment (a la United over the past few seasons). Of course, I’ll refer back to the above point, that some may use against this argument. That it’s hard to recruit players that don’t fancy Leicester or players we cannot afford. Losing to hull on the first game with players looking out of fitness and focus didn’t help either. It laid the negatives after just one game, having only lost 3 in the previous season. But going into a champions league season, we held the upper hand and could of (in hind site) bought better, even with the loss off Kante. But we are slowly building a team to compete, which I guess has always been the owners long term plans. We are building a team and recruiting better. We are building momentum!! Leicester is becoming more of an appeal, due to the vision and plans of our owners. Younger players will see is as a team that invest in youth and progression, Irrespective of where we are located. Younger players tend to have a bit more arrogance and bolshy attitudes, we have all been young before. With senior heads at the club instilling our values into the younger players, I truly believe we are to embark on future glory in the coming seasons. But as fans we need to believe in this and drive the team on, giving them that added belief and support that we were known for in 2015/2016. If we go into any game thinking we are anything less then them, we are part defeated before we even start. yes acknowledge quality, acknowledge form, acknowledge it will be tough and be respectful, and yes luck is needed too. But let’s try and stop this little Leicester, punching above weight philosophy that I’ve seen so many times in other threads. we can compete.
Pliskin Posted 5 August 2019 Posted 5 August 2019 I think we ideally need another experienced attacking player to take us to that next level. I think this season we will be more consistent, but it just depends if we can out perform our nearest rivals... I think in all honest 7th is the best we can hope for, I’d love to say top six, but we’re a top class attacking player away from that, unless Barnes or Gray step up their game dramatically in the next week, that will be the difference.

I think FTers are generally a bit OTT in their search for a winger as I don't think that BR is actually going to play a scheme with 2 wingers. The WBs are going to supply the crosses. I agree we need another top class attacking player but as long as we don't suffer injuries then I think we have enough to challenge some of the falling giants of the prem. I think Ayoze Perez is a stunning buy who fits exactly into the BR scheme. The player I'd like to buy would be a similar player who would then replace/upgrade Marc Albrighton and play in a 3 with Vardy and Perez. I'm hoping that Barnes can actually fill that role and think that Gray could still do that - if he can improve his goal shooting. Our main need imho is a player to replace Vardy when he is carrying a knock or not on top form.
dnewty Posted 5 August 2019 Posted 5 August 2019 As it stands we have signed one new first team (Perez) starter and sold one (Maguire). This for me is not enough to get us in the top six.

oxford blue Posted 5 August 2019 Posted 5 August 2019 Very fair summary of prospects for the new season here: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/aug/02/premier-league-2019-20-preview-leicester-brendan-rodgers-perez-tielemans The key to finishing seventh as is predicted above is this "The answer is to give Vardy better support while also developing an attack with more prongs".

What part did you read that said I demand instant success? What I ask for is just what our late Chairmen said when we got promoted. To challenge. That's all I ask for. Each and every season to challenge. That's the way of our owners, who are themselves ambitious as hell and achieved more than they initially laid out to themselves. They wanted top 4 and ended up winning the thing. Do you think it's my appetite for glory is anything compared to the level that self-made billionaires have? We're building a world class training centre that rivals Man City and Tottenham. And I'm supposed to wind my neck in? And then think we're going to go back into the Championship?? That's exactly the small minded tiny thinking pessimistic that makes me wonder if we're watching same club evolve in the same way. Something about your reading comprehension must be missing as pressure on players and managers is part and parcel of the game anyway. We're currently in the midst of building our new side to try and challenge, buying Perez and Tielemans to make top 4 consistently so I'm not sure what bigger picture it is that you think I'm not seeing? Because I know from what I see in the team... We've got some damn good potential. And I hope the players realise that themselves. So I'm overly optimistic. But I was overly optimistic in 2015 and guess what happened!
