Darren Hurley Posted 31 July 2019 Posted 31 July 2019 Bristol City fan here in peace. Have any Leicester City fans got a copy of the book "Of Fossils and Foxes"? I need an urgent fact / match checked with regards to Leicester Fosse in the 1900/01 season! Are friendly matches included in the season-by-season records? I am looking for details on the friendly between Bristol City and Leicester Fosse, that took place on February 23rd 1901, at Bristol. Both teams had been knocked out of the FA Cup a couple of weeks earlier, so as they had a free weekend, they arranged a friendly. Bristol City won 1-0. My question is, does the book record any details of this match, and, if so - WHERE does it say it took place? St John's Lane OR Ashton Gate? Thanks.

I've had a quick look in the latest version of F&F and it doesn't appear to have any mention of that friendly fixture. 6 minutes ago, LinekersApples said: ask @UpTheLeagueFox as i believe he was commentating that day Pipe down you

Stadt Posted 31 July 2019 Posted 31 July 2019 I mean it happened 118 years ago, how urgent can this information be?
Darren Hurley Posted 31 July 2019 Author Posted 31 July 2019 Billy Wedlock, of Bristol City and England. Bristol City's most capped player. There is a book coming out on him. It just so happens that his "home debut" (in Bristol) was in this game. But Bristol City were at that time playing alternate home games at two different grounds. And there is a big debate over which of the 2 grounds this match actually took place on. Newspaper accounts of the day, and subsequent Bristol City "stat" match-by-match books, do not appear to agree on the venue.

He may have some answers although I'd have thought the Bristol City's own historian would have a better idea.
Darren Hurley Posted 31 July 2019 Author Posted 31 July 2019 Lol. The Bristol City historian is the main one causing all the problems! His opinion is that Ashton Gate was the venue, but at least one match report has it at St John's Lane. Thanks for the tip re the Leicester historian.
