BartonFox Posted 31 October 2005 Posted 31 October 2005 Why is that? I agree the boy has potential and will become a great player for this Club, but he is still a little raw. We have the makings of a settled back four with Maybury(Stearman)/Gerrbrand/McCarthy/Johansson who have kept 2 clean sheets on the road and people want to break it up?!?!? Sheehan came in and didn't take his chance, Stearman did and now he is serious competition for Alan Maybury. Sheehan is on a learning curve but chucking him in when he isn't ready will do him and us no good just now. He has to show that he learnt from not taking his chance and when it comes around again he has to take it. As I see it now there is no earthly reason to drop any of the back four.

At the time we didn't have a stable left back, but Nissi starting to look better now.

I really like Dion but he can't play at the back if things continue like they are. We can't change the back 4!

Personally from what i've seen of Sheehan he is very talented and WOULD offer us something that no other left back at this club can. That something is that he'll support the winger in going forward, which Nissa tries his best to but ultimately can't very well as he's essentially a centre back and a slow one at that. Sheehan also can take a mean free-kick, something we are in desperate need of. I actually thought he was pretty decent against Sheff Wednesday and i'm surprised he hasn't played many more times since, but i'm sure he will do in the future. He's only just turned 19 and pretty much came on the scene out of nowhere, so i'm sure within a year or so he'll be alot further down the road of development and hopefully our first choice left back. At the minute with our defence looking tighter, there isn't a need to change it so Sheehan's best bet is to knuckle down in the ressies and he'll be picked on merit i'm sure of it.
Jimmy Posted 31 October 2005 Posted 31 October 2005 people arent saying sheehan is the answer (apart from thrac), we're saying give him 5 games not 1 every so often, young players need a run of games to settle into the team and neither sheehan of gilbert have been given that run of games required
Dr The Singh Posted 31 October 2005 Posted 31 October 2005 I think city are fortunate to have so many up and comming players (most of them untried and tested), hopefully somewhere down the line Sheehan\Gilbert|Chambers etc will get there chance and give CL some selection headaches!!

Yes, weve kept 2 clean sheets recently, but lets have some quality going forward. Plymouth arnt rubbish, and we cant break them down, they could beat us, cos they aint bad upfront. Moreso, southampton come to town on saturday, and we`ll NEED to attack, because they will just bombard us if we dont. So far, sheehan has kept a clean sheet v sheff wed, and 1 went in v blackpool. With a squad number 22, and gilbert number 12, its plain to see that CL thought gilbert would be our LB. Swallow your pride craig, and pick the BEST player to play LB.
