More Britons believe in ghosts than in God, according to new research.

Some 68 per cent of those polled for a survey said they believed in the existence of ghosts and spirits - while only 55 per cent said they believed in the existence of a God.

Twenty-six per cent said they believed in UFOs, 19 per cent in reincarnation and four per cent in the Loch Ness Monster. And 12 per cent said they thought they had actually seen a ghost.

Just over three quarters (76 per cent) said that TV shows such as Most Haunted and films including The Blair Witch Project had played a part in convincing them that spooks and ghouls really exist.

The poll of 2,012 people was carried out in advance of Halloween by entertainment retailer ChoicesUK.

Spokesman David Rich said: "We want to believe in ghosts more than ever and are far more likely to take the word of a reality documentary or convincing movie than hearsay or ancient ghost stories.

"Seeing it with our own eyes helps feed our imagination and makes the unbelievable believable.''

Don't think I believe either to be honest, Although i'd believe in Ghosts more that God if I had to make a choice, IF there was a god or if there is god watching down on us, yeah I understand why Death has to happen because if no-one died the world would just become over populated, but if there was god "watching over us" - "Protecting us" why is there so much violence, illness, poverty, e.t.c in the world?

I don't believe in God at all, Why do you thinks more believable Ghosts or God?

I believe 100%, but was only convinced by two incidedents that happened to me, one in Leicester when i was younger and one here in Northampton.

Lights going out on their own and things flying across the room would tend to freak people out, the second incident happened in broad daylight which is even more freaky.

I'd go for ghosts but no god.

I've always been curious about the Benevolent side of the paranormal though because I believe in negative forces when someone has been murdered etc. Everything has it's equal and opposite reaction and all that...

The legend that is Derek Acorah the main medium it is his last ever most haunted tonight. I find it quite funny some of the shite he spouts out and when he gets possessed by evil spirits. The show is pretty crap but watch it for Derek, always etertaining!

Derek is going alone now and Derek shows are now on every monday night called Derek Acorahs ghost towns, what a legend!

Depends in what context you believe. Although I don't believe in God as an opulent being I think your conscience covers this term. I have never seen a ghost but I have been with of somebody that felt the presence of one. It was in August when I was at the Beer Festival. On the first night we visited a pub and went to a room that was supposed to be haunted. This girl suddenly stopped and said she felt this person touching her and went on to describe how the spirit was feeling. The woman may have been putting it on but apparently this has happened a few times with her and she is interested in the paranormal.

Saying this I would be less frightened at seeing a ghost than God. Easier to reason with a ghost. lol

People are too ready to attribute to ghosts events that may seem strange at first sight (or for which there is no obvious explanation, which does not exclude the existence of an actual explanation).

just 10 minutes ago i went into the room with the piano in my house and when i went to pick up my coat the 3 bottom keys suddenly played.

the lid was on the keys, so i lifted it up, there was nothing there!

also in the same room about 2 years ago my curtains started shaking violently whilst i was watching tv.. in typical tomassi style i went ''alright mate?'' and it stopped! the window was closed and it was dry/not windy outside.
