davieG Posted 3 November 2005 Posted 3 November 2005 Well we're not the only ones going through the mill at the moment, Midlands football in general must be at its lowest ebb for some considerable time, look at the following, no one is doing even reasonably well - Wolves are the highest but even they haven't won in six and have failed to beat Derby, Burnley & Brighton. Brum 19th / 20 WBA 17th / 20 AV 16th / 20 Wolves 10th / 24 LCFC 15th / 24 Derby 17th / 24 Cov 21st / 24 Forest well enough said What's going on? Is this football wasteland going to continue or is it just the natural cycle of time that we seem to get and some or all of us will rise again. Is anyone optimistic, does anyone care that we are all competing to see who's the worst. It's a good job nostalgia exists
The People's Hero Posted 3 November 2005 Posted 3 November 2005 I think that most of these clubs are being managed fairly badly or have been in the past. WBA are actually doing alright considering their standing within football and the resources at their disposal.

I suppose we could look on the bright side and say that we ain't got far to go to be the best club in the Midlands
The People's Hero Posted 3 November 2005 Posted 3 November 2005 Well we've got to get to the premiership. Do you see that happening?
john_lcfc Posted 3 November 2005 Posted 3 November 2005 theres no really good midlands team there just all average
cisono Posted 3 November 2005 Posted 3 November 2005 Well we've got to get to the premiership. Do you see that happening? Not quite ... not yet anyway...

I dont totally agree with the first part of your theory, (poor management) although this may be a factor. However the second part of your theory is a bit more like 'hitting the badger on the snout' WBA have done well 'considering' it is a team that so far has managed to 'buck the trend' of 'smaller' or 'family' clubs , being subjected to this harsh reality of not enough funds to keep up with the 'big boys' . Aston Villa will probably rise up again if their new deal holds well for them, I hear that they will have about £20m per season to spend from now on. As for us and other similar clubs?.........then the manager has to get tighter with regards budgets, and better with regards team spirit and good old fashioned hard work for the rewards of winning. Since the collapse of the ITV screening live footy for the football league deal fell through, many clubs have had huge adjustments to make, and we r still feeling the effects of it. (all football league clubs)
The People's Hero Posted 3 November 2005 Posted 3 November 2005 Good point Al. It was a personal thing with the management side of things. I believe that Levein has done well off the pitch but is yet to prove himself on the pitch here. MA is taking Cov deeper in to trouble. Megson hasn't a clue at Forest. Bruce I feel has just stagnated a little in his reign at Brum. None of the sides can be described at the moment as exciting - you get the feeling that all us East Midlands sides are HOPING for a 1-0 rather than forcing the issue and GETTING three points. If its there for the offering, we might take it, maybe, if thats ok, if it's not okay then fine, a point will do us. If the oppositing bares its teeth, we're happy to walk away with our lives, albeit with no points. Just my view, feel free to criticise.
Babylon Posted 4 November 2005 Posted 4 November 2005 Well we've got to get to the premiership. Do you see that happening? Or the midlands clubs all get relegated!!
Babylon Posted 4 November 2005 Posted 4 November 2005 you get the feeling that all us East Midlands sides are HOPING for a 1-0 rather than forcing the issue and GETTING three points. Because it's a little harder to do than saying to the players "I tell you what boys go out and attack today. Sod the defending, if you do that we are guaranteed 3 points. Well at least that's what I read on foxes talk."
