One of the most difficult documentaries I've ever had to watch.

Those poor lads that were just chasing their dreams.

Unfortunately it wasn't just young footballers that were affected during those times.

I hope they can somehow rebuild their lives

I think that is the big thing. This programme only covers football and I am sure it's probably only a small percentage of abuse that went on in football, let alone any other sports and general society. All those murder series I watch, most of them have suffered abuse at some point. I think if a mass investigation would have happened in the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s, results would have been sickening.

This is rife in society unfortunately and therefore it happens in football - particularly the access it offers to children. And this all happened in an era where this kind of thing verged on being acceptable (hard to fathom). Think band with underage groupies etc.

It’s truly sickening. You can see rogue coaches getting away with this, but surely these days in professional set ups that now involve big coaching teams (even at youth level) you would think that in itself decreases the chances of this happening. Obviously not the same for grass roots though.

The ‘manager’ of my grassroots team from being about 7-12yo is now in prison for about 20 years for being a peadophile. Luckily (for us), all of his crimes were committed away from that football club (as far as I’m aware) but scary to think he had unsupervised access to dozens of young children.

Nobody was too surprised when the news broke and we were all well into our 20s though.
