Hi all,

My Dad is now in his 80s and has early stages dementia. He is being encouraged to take part in more social activities to help slow down the progress of his condition.  Unfortunately he lives in a small town in Devon now, and opportunities to mix with people who have similar interests are very limited.

He lived in Leicester in the late 60s and through the 70s, and he was a regular at Filbert Street.  He still watches The Foxes on TV whenever possible, but I'd really like him to be able to chat to fellow fans about the games, both current and from 40-50 years ago.

Are there any regular Zoom meetings that he could join?  He occassionally/rarely stumbles on his words, or loses track of what he's saying, but he's at his most animated when talking about football.

Many thanks.

Did your dad serve in the forces at all (even National Service?). If so, the veterans association offer calls etc. I know this because my late father who had dementia and passed away last year served in the RAF for his national service. The RAFA organised a "buddy" who in normal times would have met face to face for a coffee but in covid times it was phone calls etc. But it was very useful as there were able to share RAF stories and stuff.

Not sure if this applies to your dad but worth considering.

Hi stripeyfox, thanks for the suggestion.  My Dad did complete his national service, but had a very torrid time of it.  I don't think he would want to revisit those memories.

But again, thank you for the suggestion :-)

@bspittles A lot of towns organised support groups to help people during the covid crisis. In my small town the response was overwhelming and when I was furloughed at the beginning of the second lockdown last November I volunteered but so many people were already helping out that my services weren't needed. It might be worth finding out whether there is one in your Dad's area and what they will be doing now their active support for the Covid crisis is probably winding down.

Defnitely get in touch with the club about this, as I am sure there are others in your dads boat, and the club may already act as a co-ordinator in this regard.
