Ferrari extend Carlos Sainz until the end of 2024.

Good news. Don’t do what Mercedes did and have Bottas sweating like a pregnant nun hoping for that one year contract each season.

Charles and Carlos are at a good level, work well together (at the moment lol ) and there’s no reason to change.

Mick would be the ideal Ferrari driver eventually but he looks like he still needs 3 years or so anyway.

I think Stinky needs an alternative safe space Formula 1 2022 thread where only pro-Hamilton posts are allowed, everyone pretends Max is the devil and Nico Rosberg never existed.

Ferrari looking very good again.  Guess in the wet conditions confidence in the car, which they're not lacking, is a big part of the times.

I don't think this sprint format will ever grow on me

Agreed on that.

So the drivers go into qualifying with basically no idea of setup.

Thought it was funny that Hamilton was 7 seconds off the pace in FP1 lol

Yeah same.

Last year it was a bit stupid because there wasn't enough riding on it.

Now there are significant points it feels like it's taking too much away from the race.

In both cases, a big compromise on the amount of practice is a bit shít.

Now the racing is a bit more competitive, we hopefully don't need these gimmicks and we can stick with the usual format. Glad it's only 3 races again though and not the complete or half season as was once muted.

Last year it got away with it as people considered it a trial and the majority supported at least giving it a go.  What will they learn this season that they didn't from last year?  If it's "fan engagement" driving the decision, then they must have that information and be in a position to go all in at every race or scrap it.

Is the grid for Sunday decided by today's qualifying  ?

Nope.

It's Qualifying today for the Sprint tomorrow.

The finishing order from that will be the grid for Sunday's race.

One of the biggest criticisms of it was that there wasn't enough incentive to take risks.

I guess they think the change to the points system so that the top 8 score points tomorrow, and with overtaking supposed to be easier, its popularity should increase.
