Yes I do believe this, this is the way the club is run, we always do this. Its like Rudkin is waiting for the yellow sticker players at the end of the window. The club should have acted more quickly, the failing senior team should have been in the UK pulling out all the stops, leaving no stone unturned. Instead we look likely to begin the season with a team with zero creativity, too much dead wood.

No lessons have been learned. I'd be surprised if we are above midtable this year. Forget promotion.

So even though in the space of 6 weeks where we’ve employed a new management team, banked £80m in sales & signed five 1st team players with 5 weeks still left of the transfer window you think the club has acted slowly?

We're not ready. We looked excellent in that first 10-15 mins today, but it all started to fall apart once our complete lack of fitness and conditioning became apparent.

I know you shouldn't read too much into pre-season, but A) the collapse from 1-0 to 3-0 in a 5 minute window and B) half the squad being out on their arse by half time says to me that the demons of the past two seasons are still hanging heavy over this squad. Our mentality, especially at the back, remains wafer-thin and we were our own worst enemy once again.

The one silver lining is that the footy we played in that first 20 minutes was beautiful. Exactly the high-tempo, front to back mix of pressing and possession I hoped to see under Maresca. For that, he's going to get my patience, because I fear the first month or so of the season is going to be a proper shock to the system for both the club hierarchy and the moronic fans who still eat out of their hands instead of questioning their bonkers stewardship.

I just hope that things click into place and the squad can get up to speed before the fans turn. People need to remember that it's not the Manager's fault that the club put him in this position heading into what is, from a financial and long-term prospects perspective, the most important season we've had for 15 years.

Interestingly was thinking about the last time we had to do something like this.

Step forward Nige back in 2008.

Nine players signed by opening day. We signed three on the first day the window was opened. Then a fourth signing within a week.

Outgoings - we’d cleared out 8 including three players for money by the 1st July.

Shows what can be done with a good system / good people in the right places

One of the best things on the season review DVD that season, Nige says when he came into the club he had players that didn't want to be here and was happy to let them go if they didn't want to be here.

So refreshing.
