kirkup21 Posted 23 September 2004 Posted 23 September 2004 Wales and Leicester City striker Nathan Blake has announced his retirement from international football. "It's come to a stage where I have to put myself and my family first," Blake told BBC Wales Sport. "International football was becoming a very difficult thing to do because I was spending a lot of time away but not always being involved." Blake, 32, made his Wales debut 10 years ago and went on to win 29 caps, scoring four goals. His last appearance for his country came as a substitute in last November's 1-0 Euro 2004 second-leg play-off defeat to Russia in Cardiff. "If we qualified for the 2006 World Cup [in Germany] I'll be 34 and the chances of me being involved would be very slight," Blake added. "I think it's just a good time to go." Blake, who has started only twice for his new club Leicester this season, insisted his decision to quit Wales had nothing to do with the imminent departure of manager Mark Hughes. Injuries have limited Blake's club appearances over recent months, but the former Cardiff City forward says he hopes his retirement from international football will improve his chances of succes with the Foxes. "I'm having an indifferent time at the moment so I want to get my head down and try to make the most of it at Leicester," he said.
Ash Posted 23 September 2004 Posted 23 September 2004 He knew he was never gunna get called up again thats why
Scow Posted 23 September 2004 Posted 23 September 2004 Why can't he just retire from football all together? Go on Blake, it's for the best.
Oli Posted 23 September 2004 Posted 23 September 2004 I thought Micky signed him because he has a proven international scoring record? 4 goals in 29 caps, thats well good for a striker.

Give him a chance I say!
TrickyTrev Posted 23 September 2004 Posted 23 September 2004 It's nice to know he accepts he is not playing well, but I doubt he will ever make an impression at Leicester.
Scow Posted 23 September 2004 Posted 23 September 2004 Talk is cheap. If he's trying to make the most of being at Leicester, why is this not reflected in his performances? He's lazy and uncommited, simple as. International football won't change that because he wasn't getting picked anyway.
Guest Daniel Posted 23 September 2004 Posted 23 September 2004 Yeah put your family first blake, before Leicester. Come on lad, leave. 4 in 29? Excellent signing by Adams, god he's such a good scout.

RoyFox Posted 24 September 2004 Posted 24 September 2004 Here's an idea, Why doesn't blake retire full bloody stop. Bag O Shite. OK he has felt the brunt of our stress recently, as supporters we don't care if someone has the bad game or 2; it's about attitude and working your socks off for the team, tracking back, playing as a unit , firing up players - this isn't happenig all round and blakes a cheif culprit
Anish Posted 24 September 2004 Posted 24 September 2004 To say that he's had an "indifferent time" at Leicester is a bloody understatement! He's been shite in every game and has done nothing positive! Stop counting your money and get back to some real work Blake!
