Vardy, Jannik Vestergaard and Victor Kristiansen were all absent for the FA Cup defeat at Manchester United last Friday, all three ruled out with “light injuries”.

But the trio have been back in training at the club’s Seagrave training base this week and Ruud van Nistelrooy is hoping they are available to face the title-challenging Gunners on Saturday lunchtime.

“They had a good week of training,” van Nistelrooy said at his press conference on Thursday morning. “They’re back in full training. So all being well they are ready for selection.”

Van Nistelrooy added that there are no further injury problems for him to deal with, and so Patson Daka, who limped off at Old Trafford, is fine.

That leaves just two players out for City, with Ricardo Pereira (hamstring) out until at least next month and Abdul Fatawu(knee) unavailable for the remainder of the campaign.

Leicester City star ruled out for season after undergoing surgery as six injuries confirmed
Mads Hermansen won't play again this season with Jakub Stolarczyk to be handed the gloves for this weekend's clash with Southampton and the three games thereafter

Mads Hermansen will not play for Leicester City again this season after undergoing surgery on a groin injury.

Hermansen will miss the final four matches of the campaign, with City manager Ruud van Nistelrooy confirming that Jakub Stolarczyk will be handed the gloves for this weekend’s game against Southampton and the three matches thereafter.

The Danish goalkeeper suffered the injury in the away defeat to Newcastle last December but returned just over a month later.

Van Nistelrooy has said that Hermansen was being managed through the issue over the past three months, but has now undergone surgery with a view to getting him ready for pre-season.

But given the transfer speculation around Hermansen as the club prepare to drop into the Championship, it’s possible the Dane has played his final game for the club.

Van Nistelrooy said at his press conference on Thursday morning: “Mads Hermansen had an operation, so Jakub will be in for the rest of the season, the remaining games.

“It’s something that had to be solved to get him up and running for pre-season, so it was better to do it now so that he's ready, rather than delaying it.

“The problem he had when he missed the games and Jakub filled in very well in December and January, it's still that issue. It’s been taken care of so that he can work on recovery and be fit for the pre-season.

“He had the big spell where we had to prepare him, without an operation, to play the rest of the season. The medical people and strength and conditioning guys did a great job. They managed him through the games and training sessions.

“Now, in this situation, already being relegated, we have Jakub as a great number two who can fill in. Also for his experience, it's very good. So for both, this was the decision.

“But he (Hermansen) has been playing through this injury, yes.”

Hermansen will be one of six players unavailable through injury this weekend, with the trio substituted at Wolves all ruled out.

Bobby De Cordova-Reid is unlikely to feature again this season with the muscle injury he sustained at Molineux, while Ricardo Pereira will also miss a couple of weeks.

Facundo Buonanotte is now going through a concussion protocol and so will at least miss this Saturday’s game. Stephy Mavididi and Abdul Fatawu have already been ruled out.

“We are a lot thinner than before,” van Nistelrooy said. “Ricardo Pereira came off with a muscle injury, so will be out for a couple of weeks so it's possible he can still play (this season).

“Bobby De Cordova-Reid had a muscle injury and we don’t expect him to play this season anymore.

“Facundo had a concussion so he's in the protocal for a concussion. He'll miss Saturday's game and we'll see if he can make it into next week's game.

“Of course, Stephy Mavididi, we don’t expect him to play this season anymore, and Abdul Fatawu it's clear he's not involved for this season.”

Harry Souttar injury latest leaves Leicester City with transfer gamble to consider
The Australia international centre-back had a terrific record for Sheffield United before his loan spell was cut short by injury, the 26-year-old keeping 14 clean sheets in 20 starts

If Harry Souttar is going to be part of Leicester City’s plans next season, it won’t be from the start of the campaign.

The centre-back has been out injured since December when he tore his Achilles tendon while on loan at Sheffield United.

The severity of the injury means that Souttar will still be in rehab come the start of City’s pre-season, and potentially won’t be able to feature again until the end of the calendar year.

Ruud van Nistelrooy said this week: “I see him every day. He has a torn Achilles tendon. That’s been operated on and his rehab is going well, it’s going according to plan, but he won’t be fit for pre-season.”

There’s been a change in manager since Souttar first left for Sheffield United, and there could be another before he returns if van Nistelrooy does not survive the summer.

But whoever’s in charge, it gives Souttar the chance of a reprieve at City, having been out of favour under both Enzo Maresca and Steve Cooper.

His record during his loan spell with the Blades suggests he should be considered as part of a Championship back-line.

In his 20 league starts for Sheffield United before his injury, Souttar kept 14 clean sheets. In the other 26 games prior to the play-offs, the Blades kept eight clean sheets.

City are due a rebuild at centre-back, and there’s potential for each of their current four senior options to leave the club.

Wout Faes, Caleb Okoli, and Jannik Vestergaard have been linked with moves away, and Conor Coady is entering the final year of his contract.

Ben Nelson is expected to return to the club and play a key role, but that’s only if he’s not sold for PSR purposes.

It may ease the burden in the transfer market if Souttar was to be considered an option for next season, but that’s only if City are willing to potentially go half a campaign without him.

City likely need four centre-backs in their squad next season. If they're confident Souttar can play a part once he's fit, they could take a gamble and survive on three until his return, allowing them to spend money elsewhere this summer.

But having four fit options at the start of the campaign would be the safest route, with the Australia international to add further competition when he makes his comeback.

Interest from Sheffield United would have been expected had Souttar’s injury not been so serious, but the nature of his Achilles problem practically rules him out of a transfer this summer.

So even if his future is uncertain, he should at least get an opportunity in training to impress the manager before next January’s window, which seems to be the next realistic moment for him to leave City.

The 26-year-old has a contract at the King Power Stadium that runs to 2028.

I think he could come good.

I would be surprised to be honest, by the time he’s fit it’s like a new manager will already have a clear idea of who they prefer at that position.
