Bloody hell. He and Bleddyn Jones were the soundtrack to my Saturdays growing up.

RIP.

Both great men. Bleddyn was my mum's boss for a bit and, despite only meeting me a couple of times, always asked her how I was doing whenever she'd see him later in his life.

As for Nev, all I can add is that he handled me incredibly well as a weird child who got on the football phone-in a couple of times. Met him once as an adult and he was as I hoped he'd be. A little bit of our club's history's died today.

Sad day for Leicester City and us older fans who grew up in the 90s listening to Neville on Radio Leicester. He was outstanding at his job and made it exciting to listen to football commentary on the radio. I will always fondly remember listening to him and John Sinclair when that was the only way we could access Leicester City matches (other than attending matches).

RIP Neville

Anyone remember the game where radio Leicester lost comms and Nev managed to commentate from someone’s phone or a phone box?

Sad news indeed.

My grandfather used to record all the games to cassette and I used to fall asleep listening to them. I can remember a couple of the league cup runs having the opposite effect!
A proper commentator.

Feel like it was a midweek game away at Everton? Maybe 1997?

Sad news! This chap was the soundtrack to many Saturday afternoons of joy and despair listening to City with my dear old dad; I'll always cherish such memories.

Nev was so good, I can't even remember who took over after he retired! The man left one hell of a mark.

It was John Sinclair for a bit afterwards but if there was anyone between him and Stringer I don't remember him.

Me too. My dad loved listening to him. Bless

Been a long time since I was a regular user of FT but I just wanted to say that many, many moons ago I worked at LCFC as an 18 year old Waiter in the catering team. Luckily for me I was based on the ground floor in the media room so got to know a lot of the regular journalists in there, Nev being one and he was always the kindest, friendliest bloke and always had time for a bit of a chat before and after games with one of, let’s face it, “the help”, before the manager came in for the press conference or he had to zip off for an interview somewhere

He took time to show me how his job all worked behind the scenes and of course we’d chat about Leicester’s plight in the league. The man was an absolute gent and I was saddened to hear of his passing.

May you rest in peace Nev, thank you for spending some of your time with a young LCFC fan who was definitely overstepping the boundaries of his role in his work at the club.
