I find it incredible that people devote their lives to following a sport they don't actually understand.

I find it incredible this is always the rhetoric banded about when people criticise possession based football. It’s easily understood what short goal kicks are trying to do, but it’s clear to see when it doesn’t work. Having to fizz the ball about your own box is absolute lunacy, and I can only think of 1 goal that it has directly caused for us (Watford away) whereby in the same game we also conceded from the same play.

Short goal kicks are the easiest things to plan and set up against and when you win the ball your 30 yards from goal max with 5/6 against a disjointed defence who aren’t ready to defend, it just invites defenders and midfielders to take more risks in their own box.

In conclusion it’s absolutely wank

we did the exact same goal kicks last season, the problem with going longer is we are a tiny side especially when Wilf and Soumare aren't playing so no one can win the ball aerially

Yeah this is the problem. You need a Chris Wood type player. I always think it's good to have that type of player in the squad, a huge unit you can pull out from time to time. We saw Manchester Utd buy Weghorst for this a few seasons a go. I mean he never scored a goal for them and Utd have been ran worse than us but it gave them an option.

I'd love us to scour Europe for a 6ft 8 Eastern European brick laying monster who'd be happy to sit on the bench and be wheeled out for times like yesterday to give us options.

The fans would love it, I'm sure!

Risk v reward

problem is we’re not really good enough to generate the reward

if you have the players/confidence then it makes perfect sense to do it
