The test I want to do is England South Africa at Newlands in Cape Town. Obv Ashes would be amazing though!

Have been to Newlands and also Dharamsala last year for the 5th test. Both well above the Aus trip for me, amazing one-off experiences. When there is another NZ tour I will seriously look at that.

yeah those grass banks in NZ look great lol Still has a more local feel to it over there! Not sure I'm a fan of these enormous stadiums. I imagine they can feel a bit flat at times...

Went to Newlands for a Test in '94, from memory. Sat on a grass bank facing table mountain. Shame the view is slightly spoilt by the Castle Brewery ! Still, a great ground & place to visit.

Is anyone thinking of going at all?

Ive had a bit of a change of circumstances and am thinking about heading out for the first test.

I’m no longer in the Barmy Army (though could rejoin I guess) but how easy are tickets to come by for Ashes (a) via other means?

Any Ashes away info or experiences would be appreciated

Booked flights & accommodation just need to get tickets, taking in last 3 tests if I get tickets, lad going for 4, he got loads of time off work somehow.  I backpacked in 98/99 & went to Adelaide for 3 days & ODI in Sydney, lost both:@

What did you like so much about it?

Loads.

The way of life, places to go and visit, beaches, sea, people are so much nicer than UK. In cities there's parks, places you would actually want to go and walk round, areas are kept so well. It feels like the Government actually wants to help you rather than shaft you, cheap bus/train fares compared to here, so easy to travel using public transport. The people love their sports as well.

When you go abroad it's an eye opener to how far behind we are.

I understand that, just wondered given you can get nice beaches etc...2 hours away, just wondered if there was something else to travel for so long for.

Going somewhere on holiday as a British tourist with £ in your pocket is very different to living there though

Yeah, but given the distance you wouldn't just go for the nice beaches as you say, we have plenty far closer. We went for just over 3 weeks, hands down the best thing I've ever done. All the main sights, Opera House, Harbour Bridge, MCG, Aus Open, Great Barrier Reef, Whitsundays, Surfers Paradise, Bondi to Coogee Walk there's absolutely loads to do. The food is great too. We travelled around a bit and barely scratched the surface. Would love to do it all again and I will, one day.

I’ve been told by all these companies that they can’t sell tickets separately to the hotel. Even the Barmy Army can’t.

My mate was adamant we’d get tickets out there, which I believe we would’ve. But I’m not travelling the other side of the world without guaranteed tickets
