Leicester City 'Retro' FM Diary

I've been thinking about doing this for awhile but with our current dire situation and the 10th Anniversary of O'Neill joining I though the timing was perfect.

Leicester City 'Retro' FM Diary

The idea is simple. An FM game based on these questions:

- What if Martin O'Neill hadn't left in 2000 to go to Celtic?

- What if he stayed until the summer of 2005 before resigning due to family commitments?

- What if all our best players had stayed?

- What if Stan Collymore had rebuilt his career under O'Neill and at the age of 34 was still going strong?

- What if Leicester never moved to the Walkers Stadium? Instead staying put in the atmospheric and characteristic Filbert Street.

- What if the clubs kits were still simple but effective, sponsored by Walkers Crisps and made by Fox Leisure?

With the power of FM we can answer those questions.

Brief rundown of what's happened since 2000

Since the summer of 2000 the club have kept up their top flight status becoming a strong force in the Premiership. The last 5 seasons have seen the club finish 9th, 5th, 15th, 12th and 8th respectivley. The club reached the FA Cup semi-finals in 2001 but lost out to Liverpool at Villa Park, the club also got to the Carling Cup final in 2004 but Chelsea beat us on penalties. After finishing 5th in the 2001/2002 season the club qualified for the UEFA Cup but went out in the 3rd round to Dortmund.

Squad

I got rid of all the current players except Dublin (O'Neill wanted to sign him when he was here) and added legendary/good ex-City players still playing who played for club between 2000 and present day. I kept a lot of the current youngers players so that I had a youth setup.

I have £7.5m to build a squad around these ex-players.

Expectations

John Elsom and the fans except the club to battle against relegation this season with 'Messiah Martin', I'm sure I can achieve that depite the old age of my squad.

So, now that's all clear let's get stuck into some serious nostalgia!

This seems to be a very good idea and it really does make you think, what if?? :(

they look good but i think Collymore might be a tad over rated (he is 34)

did u leave Dickov and Savage the same? somehow they look better than they were when i started my fm06 game. maybe they look better because they're in the leicester squad :D

anyways good luck for the season/s :)

Collymore is crap physically but just as good technically, remember he has meant to have played for City for 5 seasons and done well.

I've left every other player totally the same.

How did you change the pitcures ?!

Any chance that you could upload the edited verison onto a website so that I can download it ?

I created new images and ceated a config file to map them to the game.

The database files are very big so unfortuntley it would take forever to upload, it's very simple to transfer a few players in the editor.

13th August 2005 - Premiership - City of Manc Stadium

Manchester City 1-0 Leicester City

A poor performance and we really struggled to keep hold of the ball. They murdered is in midfield and dominated the game from there. Our players looked unfit and unmotivated.

20th August 2005 - Premiership - Filbert Street

Leicester City 1-2 Tottenham Hotspur

Despite Emile Heskey giving us the lead, through a poor Robinson goal-kick, Spurs gradually took hold of the game and their class prevailed. We looked underconfident throughout the game especially infront of goal.

24th August 2005 - Premiership - Craven Cottage

Fulham 0-2 Leicester City

A superb performance from the side against 10 man Fulham. Heskey ionce again gave us the lead early on after good play on the right from Savage, it was Savage who then got the 2nd goal from the penalty spot to give us all three points.

Below is the current line-up, I'm playing the traditional O'Neill 3-5-2:

Dickov may well come into the side when fit to replace Collymore, Stan has looked poor so far.

A great idea, the hard part is predicting which players O'Neill would have signed.

Good luck! Nice to see Collymore in there, keep us updated on his progress.

I'm not predicting what signings O'Neill would of made (except Dublin), I started the game with only a few players in the squad who used to play for us but have now left.
