Craig Posted 26 September 2004 Posted 26 September 2004 Gordon Strachan is my personal favorite so far.
Babylon Posted 26 September 2004 Posted 26 September 2004 Gordon Strachan is my personal favorite so far. 22189 He could get better jobs. I think he could see it as interesting though, as a club we have bags of potential!!!
Teeno Posted 26 September 2004 Posted 26 September 2004 Gordon Strachan is my personal favorite so far. 22189 Realistic???
Teeno Posted 26 September 2004 Posted 26 September 2004 Course it's realistic. 22210 When he was linked with Newcastle and Blackburn he's going to come to Leicester who are 16th in the Championship
Hoof Fox Posted 26 September 2004 Posted 26 September 2004 At the end of the day Strachan was linked with these teams but never got the job so I think we would be an attractive and realistic option for him.
Ric Flair Posted 27 September 2004 Posted 27 September 2004 Steve McLaren had no experience as a manager and look what he's done. Arguably you could look at Brian Kidd and he's evidence not to touch a successful assistant manager of a top club. Mourinho was kit man at Barca and look at him now! It would be a gamble to appoint Thompson, but we could do alot worse in my opinion.

Yeah, he's won the League cup, but he's had a lot of money to spend over recent years. This season will decide if he really is up to it with the squad of player's he's got at his disposal. Look at Quieroz at Real Madrid, he underachieved last season. I think they finished 3rd in La Liga and failed miserabley in the Champions League. No thanks to Thompson - 10-15 games as Liverpool's number 1 under instruction from Houllier doesn't suggest he's experienced enough to take over a full time management role....
TrickyTrev Posted 27 September 2004 Posted 27 September 2004 Phil Thompson said himself on Gillete Soccer Sturday that he does not have a UEFA pro-licence so would not be able to manage us.
gjp Posted 28 September 2004 Posted 28 September 2004 The blokes a cock and i would rather keep MA than see him take us down its was bad enough listening to him on soccer saturday . Newell is the man for me to take us forward even though i admit he lacks experience i would give him a shout, and hes an old boy. Football on the ground just imagine.

Micky in this case plays to the teams strengths, hoofing the ball up to scowy may not be pretty but it works.
SilverFox Posted 28 September 2004 Posted 28 September 2004 When I was a student at Liverpool Uni (3 years) I saw many Liverpool games. Thompson was always the man on the touchline directing players and pointing out what needed to be done. (Houllier warmed the bench...al la Micky Adams). Don't underestimate his abilities as a man manager. Also, don't underestimate what he managed while Houllier was away. I think he would be a good replacement. He is certainly an animated, passionate person...that can be clearly seen
