More will be leaving today I should think. Varsho, Bieber, Springer maybe. And it's all Vladdy's fault, he has been woeful. Even a half-decent season from him would've seen the Jays in the thick of the wildcard race at the very least.

 

Wouldn't mind seeing Gausman get a ring with the Cubs.

6 homers at the start of August isn't something anyone would have predicted. Not a single homerun at home is unfathomable.

 

He should give that big money back.

Varsho, Hoffman gone. Soriano, Arrighetti in along with a bunch of prospects. Pretty pleased with the Jays business.

 

Next year's rotation with a top 4 of Cease, Soriano, Yesavage, Ponce could be something to look forward to. Maybe Gausman back as a free agent! Or just offer $600m+ to Skubal :D

Something I've never seen in a baseball game.

 

In yesterday's Jays game, Red Sox were batting, there was 1 out with runners on 1st and 3rd. The video scoreboard (run my MLB not the Blue Jays) incorrectly showed 2 outs.  A fly-ball was hit to centre field and caught - so batter is out. The runners hadn't tagged-up before the catch and had begun to run round the bases (they obviously thought there were 2 outs). The ball was returned to first-base to appeal the runner who hadn't tagged-up, and he was given out - that's the 3rd out. Inning over right? Certainly both teams thought so, and both teams left the field.

 

Apparently not though. The runner at 3rd who hadn't even tried to tag-up, crossed the plate before the ball reached 1st base. At this time, the home-plate umpire did not signal this as a run. Both teams left the field - there was no appeal from the Red Sox.

 

Then the umpires decided after a rules check that the run should count. This was because it was a 'timing' play rather than a 'forced' play as the bases weren't loaded, and the runner, despite not tagging-up, had crossed home-plate before the appeal at 1st base. All the Jays had to do was to appeal at 3rd base before leaving the field but of course they were of the mindset that the inning was over as they had 3 outs.

 

After all said and done, it does make sense though, as the runner at 3rd could have been aware that there was in fact only 1 out, he could've tagged-up and tried to score. You can see that it would be natural in this scenario for the Jays to think that the appeal at 1st base would enough for the inning to be over and for the run not to count.

 

Thankfully the run didn't affect the outcome of the game as Jays won it 2-1.

Know nowt about this but have stumbled across it live on the Iplayer. Think I've just seen an unreal Philadelphia comeback in the 10 minutes I've had it on?

Yep, if you're 4 runs down going into the bottom of the 9th and you end up winning, that's a pretty spectacular comeback

Game 7 of last year's World Series between the Jays and Dodgers ranked #1 in MLB's greatest games selection. For Jays fans, so tantalisingly close to Baseball immortality, yet left with only the cruelty of what-ifs. Hurts to this day.

 

In the #3 spot was the Cubs - Indians game 7 of 2016, a game I know @KingsX won't want to be reminded of..

After recent comments from vladdy and doubling down on them, he is done, fans should boo him this weekend during fan appreciation week, and he should be traded, that is the worse thing he could say, this team went from 6 strikes away from winning the World Series to coming last place in the division this year and couldn’t stay above .500 all season, and having the worse season of his career at the beginning of his 500 million dollar contract, the highest paid Toronto athlete of all time.

Does not seem to be the sharpest does he. And no other team is ever going to pick up that contract methinks.

All this bla-blah about the Jays - a useless entity this season. :nigel: 
 

Let’s talk about the overachievers. How about the smallest payroll team in MLB (less than a third of Toronto’s) simply refusing to lose in September for the third year in a row. :clap:
