Whenever the obsession with being a budget Man City began. It's the myopic, idiotic mindset of an owner who understands very little about football/business/life.

We literally had a winning formula that other clubs have taken and run with, while we've been busy cosplaying as a club with petrostate cash, taking a humiliating nosedive into obscurity.

The issues you’re referring with the squad were the ones Rodgers himself caused. He was backed to the tune of £300m and he spaffed it up the wall. Why do you think we’ve been deducted points? Some of his dreadful signings are still here and haven’t been able to shift them. He underperformed for what we spent and what he had at his disposal. He was the one who signed mentally and physically weak players for well over their market value. The core of the squad assembled largely before he came was still there and very talented.

I will never stop correcting this narrative because it’s the one Rodgers himself cultivated with the help of all the journalists and pundits that were in his back pocket. What we needed to do was get rid of him and hire someone decent who was a motivator rather than someone like Brendan who spent every interview telling them they weren’t good enough. Everything goes stale after a while and that includes the manager. That’s what we needed to refresh.

We needed turnover in the squad and didn’t move on enough players. We also had an owner and DoF who weren’t honest with him about what was really going on with finances and PSR.

Like I said, I have plenty of issues with Rodgers and not about to be his defender in the court of public opinion.

We needed competent ownership and direction in football matters. Our owner and DoF were at fault then, just as they are now.

That is probably completely correct- brendan had a three year cycle here and that's about what he does everywhere. But im not sure what he said is different to what any manager says - maresca said it after 6 months, guardiola says it every year and even Ferguson did (not saying hes anywhere near that bracket).

The club should have either cut their losses with Brendan and let him move on - Newcastle came knocking 6 months prior and the club begged him to stay. He'd already rejected Arsenal. So hes within his rights to ask for backing when hes being told he needs to deliver a top 7 finish. He'd already buried Congerton by that point.

The club should have either backed him or sacked him. They did neither - thats on the club, not Brendan.

But....  WE FINISHED FIFTH!!!!

We have been in League 1, you ungrateful little toad!

All this is shit i have had thrown at ME for the last 3 years- now you can have some!!!

Easy big boy. It’s not that we finished 5th it’s the direction of travel since and the fact that everything was thrown at Champions League qualification and it didn’t work out. I realise we’ve been the third tier, I’ve supported this club since 1968 and I’ve seen more ups and downs than you’ve had hot dinners mate. Don’t be such a complete t*t.

Agreed - we have no had a succession plan for years - the managers we bring in are all completely different making it impossible to build a culture at the club too and shows they don't have a club

Signing Rowett - a manager who always goes with experience when the club was so disillusioned with our experienced places just showed the complete inability to read the situation too

We never had one under Vichai either.

Eight days after winning the FA Cup in 2021, when we lost to Spurs and so didn´t qualify for the CL. Then the summer signings.......

Perhaps controversially, because we did some amazing things afterwards, but I always felt it was when we lost to Aston Villa in the League Cup semi final.

That was an incredibly hard defeat to accept.

You've annoyed me by reminding me of it :frusty:
