Redknapp been on about it should be an "englishman managing england" does it really matter anymore? Who cares what nationailty if were winning games and brings success then the guys a hero. Theres no good english coach out there good enough at the moment. Eddie Howe is decent enough but even he had terrible season for Newcastle and showcases lack of consistency.

One interesting question if pep is available and interested in the job, would you still considering going English.

Something about Tuchel isn't there. I didn't think he was the right man for the job and I didn't think he did enough to convince me otherwise in the games leading up to the tournament.

But so far he's behaved impeccably. He carries an aura about him where he's calm but ready to snap if you're not pulling your weight and his past successes tell you he's as astute as they come tactically.

Obviously it's one game and the proof will be when we play a big team later in the tournament but I reckon he's got it spot on. First England manager in my lifetime that wants to play to the player's strengths.

The front 6 complements each other perfectly. Nice to see we're not just shoehorning names into the team.

The reason we’ve had to appoint a foreign coach to try get the best of a talented generation of young footballers is that we don’t produce world class coaches in this country. The last time an English coach won the top European club competition was when Liverpool won the European Cup under Joe Fagin in 1984. Since then, the European Cup/Champions League has been won by a Spanish coach eleven times, an Italian coach nine times, a German coach five times , a French coach four times and a Dutch coach three times.

It’s surprising that a country with as strong a football culture as England has cannot produce elite coaches any more, but there it is. That’s why we’ve had to look elsewhere. And it was the right thing to do, no matter what Harry Redknapp says.

I think it's better when coaches are from the country. If England can't produce good coaches that's our problem we need to rectify. Spending a lot of money on a foreign coach seems a bit like cheating.

Problem with English coaches instead of creating their own system and style.

Interesting fact no English coach has lifted an european honour since 1997 and that was Bobby Robson bless him.

Seems like our coaching is years behind. There good managers in England but no one elite.

This might have been asked already but a quick look through the thread I can’t find anything.  But what’s the likely scenario regarding pubs opening for the last 16 England game?  Assuming we win the group that’s a 1am kick off on a Monday morning. Are we all likely to be watching this at home?

It's years behind because it's prohibitively expensive at the entry level compared to Europe.  We like to rip off our own.  It's about 4x more expensive to get a UEFA pro licence here than in Spain for example.

May need to persuade my manager if I can work from home on that Tuesday.
