Highlights of our last friendly of preseason

The new season starts this weekend. Just a normal league this season: First 4 teams qualify for Europe, 2 last placed team drop down to the 2nd division. NO MORE PLAYOFFS

I'd be slightly concerned at the gung ho style that meant they've shipped 12 goals in two friendlies. 
I know the quality of opposition is superior and the floodgates opened late in the games, but still. 
The goalkeeper doesn't inspire confidence.

I agree.

 

I love the fact that we try to go forward and play the game to win it instead of trying not to lose, but our defense worries me. We really need a leader at the back. 

 

The goalie indeed looked a bit shaky. Hopefully he can step his game up.

It's definitely not perfect yet, but on the other hand Heerenveen also beat Club Brugge earlier in preseason and Lille is just a few leagues ahead of us in terms of quality. And it's preseason, Simons has already said that we won't be this all over the place once the league begins and that we'll choose our moments better. That said, I'd rather lose 3-6 to Lille in a game where I know a lot of the players are still deep in the red from preseason than losing 0-2 to Lens like we did two years ago and where we just turtled up. It's not surprising that we lost both the Heerenveen and the Lille game in the last 20 minutes, as both were played at a point where fatigue was a real issue. Heerenveen came off the back of a heavy 5-day training camp and we played another friendly three days before the Lille game.

Supposedly, yes, but I'm honestly glad that we stay away from that type of player. 

Yeah, I can see your point of view as a fan. It's probably faster and easier to establish defensive patterns of play than good offensive ones. 
From the highlights, it's quite convenient that Ikwuemesi has looked decent while the transfer window is open. Is he still rumoured to England?
What core will Simons build his team around?

Where does this info come from so suddenly?  Would explain why we’ve only signed free agents and loan players until now

Sorry, only saw this now. For what it's worth, it's not 'news' as KP has been actively open to selling both clubs for several years now. It's just the first time that it's been leaked.

What a pathetic red card. Of course it's retaliation, but he gets barged into and the Charleroi player gets brushed on his ear by a reaction slap and goes down like he's shot. In my humble opinion, that should immediately cancel the card or result in a red for Charleroi play acting as well. Disgusting.
The way the commentator just goes "dat moet je niet doen" and excuses the embarrassing unsportsmanlike conduct of the Charleroi player... pfff. Grow some balls and call it out!

Been a problem in footie for ages unfortunately, with the player doing to provocation consistently getting less punishment than the player reacting. Wasn't the only time we were effed over by the way. We conceded a very soft penalty (thanks VAR), and then didn't get a penalty for a heavier offence in their box, where the guy from the red card situation would have been sent off with a second yellow.

Yeah, it is bizarre how a player can be booked or sent off for protesting or badmouthing the ref/offend a player racially/cover his mouth, but a clear act of physical violence (for a lack of better term) is completely ignored.
It's a shame the season had to start on such a sour note. Better luck next game.

Ours is already 6ft7, really would be quite a sight. Next match we’re up against Sideshow Bob (Marlon Fossey) as well, so really I support any fruit up there for a good hair matchup.

Deserved loss against what is starting to look like the Bayern of the Belgian first division, but the 0-3 was very much overstated. Still lots of positives to take away from this game, but we need a bit of luck to grab that first win.

On an unrelated sidenote, but quite relevant for your LCFC fellas as well, there may be some potential smoke in regards to the takeover rumours. Got it from a reliable source that there have been talks with potential investors at least thrice over the past years, and one of them was Todd Boehly. The same Todd Boehly who is now suddenly looking to offload his stake in Chelsea. 

Not going to say that there is something there, but it's quite a coincidence.

xG of 1.64 against 2.94. Soundly beaten, yes. Five or six, no. And should have scored at least one ourselves. But you need to watch the full game to get a better feel for that. This is also against a club that is leagues ahead of the rest of the Belgian competition.
