Matt Posted 30 December 2005 Posted 30 December 2005 City striker Mark de Vries looks set to retain his place in the starting line up for the visit of Norwich to the Walkers Stadium on Saturday (3pm). De Vries made his comeback to the side in the midweek 2-0 defeat at the hands of Reading. And Levein believes that the big man's presence will be a major attribute for the Foxes as they prepare to take on the Canaries. He said: "Norwich, as a team, sit quite deep. They sit on the edge of their box and their midfield sits tight in front of them. That brings Mark de Vries into the equation because at some point we are going to have to throw the ball into the box. "Mark has scored eight goals from 19 starts so far this season and we need him to add to that tally on Saturday." Despite their home advantage the Foxes go into the game as outsiders against a Norwich team who have won their last four games on the bounce. He added: "We will be going out with the intention of winning the match as we do every week. "We will take into account what Norwich are going to do. They play in a 4-3-3 formation with three lively and alert attacking players. They generally hit on the counter attack more than anything else." City currently lie in 20th position in the Championship table with 26 points to their name, but Levein believes that statistic doesn't tell the whole story. He said: "We have been looking into a lot of things this week to justify the position we are in and we have found that we are top of the table for shots off and on target in the league. That is incredible when you consider the position we are in. "Our defensive record is good enough to put us into the middle of the table and our shots off and on target should be putting us up with the top four or five in the league. But we aren't there, which is obviously a worry. "Norwich have shown how crazy the league is by putting a run of games together and climbing right up the table in a relatively short space of time. "We are in the process of building something here, but we have hit a stumbling block. It doesn't change the way in which we see the club developing in the next two or three seasons. We have a problem, which is small but immediate. It doesn't affect the long-term strategy. "If we continue to play how we are playing and create the chances that we are creating and we can score more goals then that is the path for us to climb the table."

City_4_Life Posted 30 December 2005 Posted 30 December 2005 HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOF lol Oh god please no
Nationwider Posted 30 December 2005 Posted 30 December 2005 <_< Hume and Smith had better start. I think they both will. Mind you, I think we'll finish 12th, so I'm no great judge!
lcfcwill Posted 30 December 2005 Posted 30 December 2005 Just typed a long thing on levein but then thought fock it. He dont seem to realise this 'small' problem is 2 places off relegation and that if we continue to play how we do we will finish up there, not climb the table like he thinks. He says what were doing right but whats not going right in his opinion. He doesnt know whats going wrong or what were doing wrong, and i want someone in charge who does. I thought I had stopped caring but when i read what he and blanderson says it pisses me off.
FNQ Posted 30 December 2005 Posted 30 December 2005 Craig Levein, you are an absolute disgrace. How can he say that heading for relegation to the third division for the first time in our history is a 'small' problem! And also, 'throwing the ball into the box' will not work with MDV. He can not head the ball and is not a target man. Clueless.

Craig ive backed you because i had faith, your losing that faith when you talk about what the opposition (its only norwich, not newcastle) will do. You have to play hume n hammond, because we need to score to win. Throw the ball into the box when theres 10mins left and its a draw. He added: "We will be going out with the intention of winning the match as we do every week. With de lump??? "We will take into account what Norwich are going to do. They play in a 4-3-3 formation with three lively and alert attacking players. They generally hit on the counter attack more than anything else." What about what we can do??? He said: "We have been looking into a lot of things this week to justify the position we are in and we have found that we are top of the table for shots off and on target in the league. The board love him. His head must be spinning what with the strain put on via the fans generally, and results. Is this a stumbling block, or a chopping block? "If we continue to play how we are playing and create the chances that we are creating and we can score more goals then that is the path for us to climb the table." The obvious always sounds good. The good thing is, we do have some good players who can change a game in our advantage.

I was looking forward to the game but if things go as CL has predicted in this interview then it's going to be yet another frustrating game where the opposition sit back and we play well all over the field and have plenty of shots and opportunities but don't have the incisiveness or creativity to actually break through their defensive bank of players and put the ball in the net and then they score on the break from their only attacking move of the whole frikkin game.... [takes a breath] ...sigh. I hope I'm proved wrong.
