Realising that he was not going to be fit for the next game and with a suspension looming for a second booking, he comes back on the pitch, lunges into Thatcher, gets booked (and therefore a one match ban) and is then subbed having achieved his aim. He then admits this to the press. Is this a good example to set the kids

Moreover the world is not there just for the benefit of children we adults have to live in too.

He should have just given it another minute or two and just caught him from behind or just shoved him off the ball Very unwise to admit it too, should have just kept quiet like the boys from the good old days "Weren't me guv"

Saturday's booking meant the England captain misses tonight's World Cup qualifier in Azerbaijan - but it lessens the liklehood he will banned from further games if he picks up another yellow card. The Real Madrid midfielder was already going to miss tonight's game because of an earlier challenge against Ben Thatcher which left the star with a cracked rib. He said he had made an "honest mistake" in breaching Fifa's fair play code. "The greatest honour in my career was when I was made England captain, there is no better feeling in football than playing for your country," he told the Press Association. "In an interview on Tuesday I was asked a question and made a frank and honest admission to counter the negative speculation. "I now know that was wrong and apologise to the Football Association, the England manager, my team-mates and all England fans for this. "I have also apologised personally to my manager Sven-Goran Eriksson. Becks admitted trying to get himself booked against Wales "I know that as captain you are in a privileged position and must always abide by FIFA's code of fair play, something which I have always done throughout my career." He added: "On this occasion I made a mistake. I hope that people will now focus on the match tonight and cheer the team on, as I will be doing." Some have speculated that Beckham got himself booked to draw attention away from new allegations about his private life. But he may have been stung into action Fifa president Sepp Blatter. Although I don't rate him as a good captain anyway, he acts like he can do whatever he wants on the pitch and he's no good at motivating others. I'd rather have Campbell or Rio, or even Stevie G or Gary Neville as captain.
