sackmycook Posted 6 February 2006 Posted 6 February 2006 Leicester City striker Matty Fryatt has pleaded with the club's board to allow caretaker boss Rob Kelly to stay on as manager until the end of the season. QPR boss Ian Holloway, who has been suspended by the London club and Luton manager Mike Newell have both been linked with the Leicester vacancy. Fryatt told BBC Sport: "If I was a board member I wouldn't act quickly. "If Rob's doing a good job he should be given a chance - and at the end of the season a decision should then be made." http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ity/4686704.stm

Since joining Leicester City from League One side Walsall in the middle of January, Fryatt has scored three goals in five games, including the winner against Wolves on Saturday. "We've won two consecutive games and Leicester haven't done that all season," Fryatt added. "I would keep the same continuity and see how things progress - I wouldn't make a rash decision for the sake of bringing someone in." http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ity/4686704.stm

Getting a bit fed up with the BBC over dramatising everything. You expect it from most places, but the BBC used to be better than most.
Gené and Tonic Posted 6 February 2006 Posted 6 February 2006 Yep I agree with him, until a better replacement can be found, then there's no need to rush things. Kelly may even get the job full time if he carries on winning.

Hutber's Law Posted 6 February 2006 Posted 6 February 2006 I think we need to tread carefully with this one. Without being on the inside we can't gauge Kelly's ability, or even willingness, to fill the management role. Management requires a very different skill-set to coaching. Just look at Peter Taylor. As a coach he was able to get short term gains out of the set up that was passed to him but longer term he was woefully out of his depth as a manager.
sackmycook Posted 6 February 2006 Author Posted 6 February 2006 out of the set up that was passed to him but longer term he was woefully out of his depth as a manager. RK was given a demoralised dressing room and a decent bunch of players. PT was given a huge transfer budget and a good team. This is a good opportunity for us to try him. My only concern would be how he will do in the transfer market. So i hope that he does bring in one or two loan signings so we can see. Alternatively, put a director of football in charge and he will make the transfers. PT and Mclaren are good coaches but they don't know how to spend money. Maybe RK won't either but luckily he won't have the opportunity to blow much cash with us.
