Bert Posted 7 March 2006 Posted 7 March 2006 Fryatt got his City career off to a flier, and now Hume is finding the net. "I am very pleased with how the partnership is going," said Fryatt. "When I first moved here, I went on a bit of a run in terms of goals and now Humey is experiencing a rich vein of form in front of goal. "There are certainly things we can still improve on, but we are enjoying playing together and have gelled quite quickly. "I know I am still young, but it is probably the most enjoyable partnership I've been involved in as a footballer. "Our link-up play is good and in terms of our understanding we are on the same wavelength and that's hard to find at times. "You can play with someone for two seasons and still not know what they are thinking or doing. Iain and myself have just clicked and long may it continue." Fryatt, though, is taking nothing for granted with Elvis Hammond and Chris O'Grady ready to step in if things are not working as smoothly as they are at present. He said: "We are playing well at the moment, and there is no need to change things, but there are other good forwards at this football club so we have to make sure we still do the business. "I may not have scored in the last five matches, but I still feel as though I am playing well and getting into the right areas. My whole game has improved and I am sure the goals will come again sooner rather than later." City's attack face a big task on Saturday at Luton, and Fryatt knows the chances may be very few and far between. He said: "I have been to Kenilworth Road before with Walsall and it's a difficult place to go to. "Mike Newell is a class manager and has helped his players adapt to life in the Championship. They are hard to beat, but we will be looking to get something out of the game. "We must just keep on with the same mentality and build on our recent good performances." Fryatt

Louise Posted 7 March 2006 Posted 7 March 2006 Hume loves Fryatt too: Let's take our recovery to another level, urges Hume by Andy Mann In-form striker Iain Hume has set his sights on over hauling Leicester City's next opponents Luton Town for a top-half finish. Hume's fourth goal in five games helped City to beat Hull at the weekend, a 3-2 victory that further eased their relegation fears. The win, City's fourth in seven league games since Rob Kelly took charge, lifted them above Derby and Hull in the table. It took their points haul to 40 and, with Millwall winning against Luton, ensured City stay eight points ahead of the drop-zone with a superior goal difference. While acknowledging City still have a lot of work to do to ensure Championship safety, Hume feels City can now make up the eight points to local rivals Coventry and Saturday's opponent Luton for a top-half finish. Hume said: "We have created that gap at the bottom, which we desperately wanted to do. "Only a month ago, we were fighting in the relegation places. "We have bridged that gap between us and the rest of the league and have now created a gap. "We are looking up and hopefully, if we can get a few results, we can get into the top half. "I think that's the least the club deserves. "Even when we were doing terribly, the fans were still coming out and we need to repay their faith and get ourselves up there. "We have put a run together and got ourselves out of it, but who's not to say anyone else can't? "If we let up, someone else can catch up." Hume attributed his scoring spree to his partnership with Matty Fryatt, and admits they are both benefiting from extended runs in the team. But he also admitted that they are benefiting from the competition for places from Chris O'Grady and Elvis Hammond. "I am enjoying it," he said. "People can tell that. I have been playing regularly, enjoying the football and producing things on the pitch. "Me and Matty Fryatt are making a good partnership. "You ask any striker and they would rather play with one person rather than chopping and changing. I am no different. "Me and Matty Fryatt have played together since Rob has taken charge, hopefully we will continue playing and we can continue working like we have. "Elvis Hammond and Chris O'Grady are champing at the bit to get into the team and we know we have a fight on our hands to keep our spots." http://www.thebluearmy.co.uk/details.asp?b...6269754|p|536|0 So, which one are we selling in the summer?
Ric Flair Posted 7 March 2006 Posted 7 March 2006 Hume loves Fryatt too: So, which one are we selling in the summer? I'll cry if either go, both are carving out a name for themselves here but I still think both of them are a season away from premiership standard as it's their first season at this level. They both seem very happy here and unless the club are desperate then both should and hopefully will stay. Stearman I fear is another kettle of fish though, he doesn't want to go either but if the price is right then I fear he could be sold ala Piper was.

If Sheff Utd don't fluff it up and actually go up this year then I could definitely see Warnock going for Hume (his addiction to strikers, Prem money and Hume's brace against them all could make him very interested). In my mind it's going to be about how much we can turn down, rather than if anyone is interested as I'm sure enquiries will be made about Hume, McCarthy and Stearman at least. They all seem happy here but if a Prem team comes in I can't see why they wouldn't be very tempted. Weso will be 'safe' because of his injury problems and while Fryatt started out well here I think he'd be too much of a gamble at the moment for someone who could afford to pay a lot for a player (we can only be talking about Prem teams or relegated teams) unless he scores another 5 or so this season. I'm hopeful that in the case of Stearman he'll only be prised away by a Prem team and most Prem teams (anyone other than Man U, Arsenal and Chelsea probably) might wait another season to see how he develops - two centre-backs recently taken from the East Mids (Huddlestone, Dawson) both had played about 100 games for their respective clubs before they were taken and I could see bigger clubs waiting another year before bidding for him. That's what I hope anyway, the one I'd seriously worry about leaving is McCarthy. I know this is taking on the discussion from another thread, but this close season is going to be a painful one with all the rumours that will be flying around (hopefully it's just rumours) - if we can keep our best players then I see no reason why we can't be in the top half of the table, sniffing around the bottom of the playoffs, next season (just look at Cardiff and Watford) but if we have to rebuild again and bring in lots of new faces then I could see another season similar to this season and last season.

Well if we do sell, i'd hope that the club would still stick to it's principles that they have set up and any money they then do have available for transfers is used on signing another young player from a premeirship club or lower league club and it continues like that. Hume has spent many years up north so that could be a factor aswell, but if a player really likes it here and has only just got here they might not want to move on again at this stage. I suppose money talsk for both parties. I'm going to enjoy watching them while I can. it's just nice to watch some players that are actually worth money for once.
ThurmastonFox Posted 7 March 2006 Posted 7 March 2006 The problem is, if we sell any of the players that we have bought in under Levein, a chunk of the cash will go to their previous clubs.
