Matt Posted 28 April 2006 Posted 28 April 2006 This month I have done loads of Overtime (About 20 Hours). Fridays are a 2pm finish for me but you can stay on and do Overtime if you want to, and I had loads of work on so thought I might aswell carry on, especially as the work I had was to be sent out Tuesday, so what should or could have been at 2pm finish for me turned into a 6.45pm finish, and I needed in work tommorrow as well (7.30am - 11.45am or longer). I've just got home now and found my monthly wage slip has come through the post, Because obviously the wage slip was printed and sent about a day maybe 2 days ago it says I have only done 17.5 hours O/T, I then look at my Net Pay and I have £***.**...I look at deductions £119.70...I then look at what my basic wage is £***.** after all my deductions I am a whole £11.55 richer...I did fuking 17.5 hours O/T and I am doing O/T to pay off fuking Tax and N.I. So the point I am making is...Is O/T worth it? Its a con! P.S - I need to double check O/T hours because I think/hope the company have messed up and still owe me extra moneys I hope so anyway...
Benji Posted 28 April 2006 Posted 28 April 2006 and then the £11.55 goes towards last months petrol money that is now £11.55 more expensive for a full tank Everything is turning into a bit of a joke now, yes we are lucky to be in the country we are, and have the opportunities we do... but when you look at the basic things like pay, taxation (on pay, petrol, goods etc) something really is not right. Then again, remember we need to pay for innovative government ideas ala i.d. cards, wars and what not. Oh yea and i have to wait till the following month until i get my overtime paid...

What do you think this is Dear Deirdre You may not have been paid the O/T yet some firms don't pay it until 6 weeks after you've done it -Robbing B*stards
davieG Posted 28 April 2006 Posted 28 April 2006 Twould also depend on what your overtime rate is, as in time, time and half, double time etc as to whether it's worth it. I always fought shy of overtime myself, except in times of emergency, unless you do loads it aint worth the hassle and then you end up with so little free time you start paying people to do jobs you would/could have done yourself. Then I got into a management position and was expected to do it for FA, and boy did they make sure you did do it..

Time and half, Double (On Sunday and Bank Holidays...Something I don't do) I am on £7.50 on Overtime rate. So really I have worked 17.50 hours to earn less than 2 hours pay Something not right there...

Well your going to pay full wack tax / NI wise plus any pension contributions so around the 50% mark will be deducted so you should get circa £60 I would have thought.

It's probably a mistake mate get it checked as that means your net pay for that overtime was £0.66 per hour and there's no way you'd pay that much tax at your wage (no offence). The only other explanation is that you paid too little tax in the last tax year so they've taken more off this month to meet the shortfall. Hope this helps.
