Finnegan Posted 6 May 2006 Posted 6 May 2006 Don't know if we've got any AFI or Apocalyptica fans out there, but if so this is definately something to try for you. The "Ya Baby!!" string quartet perform a bunch of AFI classics as a traditional string quartet. It's not as pacey or "metal" as Apocalyptica's versions of Metallica, but it's focking AMAZING - and really worth a listen. The CD's called 'The String Quartet Tribute to AFI'. The version of Girls Not Grey is amazing, YouSendIt isn't working at the moment - but when it comes back up I'll upload a couple of the songs for you lads. Brilliant stuff!

The People's Hero Posted 7 May 2006 Posted 7 May 2006 Would love to hear some of this stuff AFI are a great band Agreed. Would certainly be interested in hearing these re-workings.
Finnegan Posted 7 May 2006 Author Posted 7 May 2006 As promised: Girls Not Grey and The Nephilim which both rock in string quartet form, IMO. Definately worth a look if you can find it, which may be the catch. I gurantee it's on Amazon or something. I got it out of the HE-UGE Virgin in London. I wanna Mohawk's pretty **** decent, too. As is, well I have to say, most of it.
Daggers Posted 14 May 2006 Posted 14 May 2006 I enjoyed 'GNG' but just felt it lacked the ooomph of Apocalyptica...I don't know if that is down to the structure of the songs or just me. Good tip though, thanks...
Finnegan Posted 14 May 2006 Author Posted 14 May 2006 Apocalyptica is four electronically enhanced cellos and (depending on the version you've listened to) a drummer. They've got far, far, far more OOMPH and are meant to. None the less, I did really enjoy these versions.
