stez Posted 20 May 2006 Posted 20 May 2006 the best of a pretty bad bunch this year. our attempt deserved better but they all hate us now so. the voting is a joke. i think i was correct around 95% of the time when guessing whos 8,10,12 points would go where. it's great for my geography though
MC Prussian Posted 20 May 2006 Posted 20 May 2006 The Eurovision Song Contest is a big rip-off for all those who want to vote and then also in regards to how the votes are distributed. Close neighbours, especially in the East, have made it a tradition to support their nearby "friends". It's all in all a very corrupt system. And "Lordi" as the winners? Jeez, that's what I call an excellent taste... Serves the whole event right, tbh. What a joke.

They were the winners because they rightly took the piss out of it.. that's why they got all those votes

Rincewind Posted 21 May 2006 Posted 21 May 2006 I had it on before going work. Turned the sound off though. I did hear a snppet of the German one which I didn't rate and the Denmark which I thought wasnt too bad. The band members helped. I saw the voting onwards at work. It was a bit contrived. The winners I thought were different. An improvement to the Boom boom wham la la bam vrom vroom type of song in previous years. Are the songs improving? Because of the higher profile the contest gets a band would not want to appear if they were to lose their fan base because of it. We probably won't hear any of those songs again though.
Benji Posted 21 May 2006 Posted 21 May 2006 Surely the solution is to have one representative form each country, i.e. a well known song panalist member (i.e. simon cowell for us or someone) and they do the voting. Only then will songs be judged by performance not geography
Deathside Posted 21 May 2006 Posted 21 May 2006 Due to excessive beer intake combined with jet lag I watched this eurovision (on Spanish TV) I watched just to see what Lordi were like and to be honest they were turd - people had been saying they were playing a death metal song - It was more like a Bon Jovi song I didn't stay around for the voting as it was 4:30AM by the time the Lordi track was on
Rincewind Posted 21 May 2006 Posted 21 May 2006 I'm not too keen on this kind of contest anyway. There are so many different kinds of music so it is difficult to say one genre is better than another. It all comes down to personal taste. Yes countries did favour their neighbours but maybe because of their culture the general music scene in those countries are the same. You could have a single voter as someone said but the idea of the contest is to have a broad POV as possible from each country. I would like members of the public giving out the votes. How they select them I don't know. maybe they could get members of the Euro Song Contest fan club in each country to participate. If there are enough of them.
