Knighton Matt Posted 27 May 2006 Posted 27 May 2006 Well it's that time of year again... Trying to find a good deal on my car insurance as it's renewal time. Just wondered if anyone could recommend a company that they got a good price with? I'm 'high' risk as I'm a 23 year old male with only 1 years NCB. However I drive a 1.2 Corsa Sxi which should be in my favour. Best I've found is £580 with the AA at the moment but sure I can do better... Cheers for your help guys.
Guest seanfox778 Posted 27 May 2006 Posted 27 May 2006 you are lucky i'm 19 and before i crashed last month my insurance was going to be £1300 im to scared to check what its going to be now

stez Posted 27 May 2006 Posted 27 May 2006 Yeah I think I might just have to bite the bullet a bit this year and just hope it comes down dramatically providing I don't make any claims this year. i know it's a bit square, but could you try going on your mum/dad's insurance, cos unlike in my day, a named driver can build their own no claims. direct line do this i think
Hitesh Posted 27 May 2006 Posted 27 May 2006 Direct Line and Tesco will have the better prices, but i would try and go under your mum and dads insurance. Direct Line and another compnay, cant memba who, do that as Stez said! Worth finding out!
SystonFox Posted 27 May 2006 Posted 27 May 2006 hitesh - that is illegal and invalid. companies are cracking down on it and wont have it no more. put your mum n dad on your policy. works out cheaper, is perfectly legal and you still get ncb. im 19 with saxo VTR, 1 crash and 0 ncb. my insurance is £1200 with www.admiral.co.uk

How come?
SystonFox Posted 27 May 2006 Posted 27 May 2006 its not strictly illegal, but it is frowned upon massivley. basically you're telling the insurance its your parents car and they drive it the most whereas im guessing with most who do it, it just isnt the case. i did it with my 1st car and thinking about it now wish i hadnt, id prefer the NCB so i can get something faster when im 20 which hopefully if i get my NCB i should do im not saying dont do it or anything, feel free to do what you like guys but it isnt the best route in the long term. it may be a quick fix cheapo solution but look at pros and cons of both things, having your own car / insurance in your own name will work out to your advantage.

I see what you mean. Didnt think of it like that!
Matt Posted 27 May 2006 Posted 27 May 2006 1st Year Tesco was the best for me I paid £1700 on a "W" reg Corsa - 1L then when I passed my test and did Pass Plus got a refund of £200 reducing it to £1500 2nd Year Norwich Union is the best, I paid just over about £800 (Can't remember) on the "W" reg Corsa from my 1st year I then bought an O4 VW Polo 1.2L and got a £40 refund. 1st year to 2nd year is the biggest price drop i'm expecting for a few years, I'm expecting it too stay around the £500 to £800 mark for a couple of years tbh. Although I was expecting to be paying around £1000 for this year so might have a pleasent surprise!
Guest seanfox778 Posted 27 May 2006 Posted 27 May 2006 i just got some quotes of confused.com and most of the quotes avereged out at £1500 but admiral quoted me at £950 which is really good for me

One years no claims counts as pretty much fock all with a lot of insurance companies. Once you've built that up a bit you'll be fine. So drive carefully!
