still tynie Posted 5 November 2004 Posted 5 November 2004 With Craig Levein looking to freshen up the squad , anybody have any idea how much cash will be available for new players. Levein is used to wheeling and dealing with Bosman signings and small amounts of money it will be interesting to see how much the board are prepared to back him with.
Guest Daniel Posted 5 November 2004 Posted 5 November 2004 He'll probably get a few quid. About a fiver id say, if he's lucky.
Jonbluefox9 Posted 5 November 2004 Posted 5 November 2004 It depends on how much he can raise himself too by getting rid of unwanted players. Whether anyone else will want our bad players is another question entirely.
Anish Posted 5 November 2004 Posted 5 November 2004 I don't think he'll get much funds this season - but when our high earners leave in the summer I'm sure he'll have a few bob to play with.
Hoof Fox Posted 6 November 2004 Posted 6 November 2004 I think he will be given some funds this season, It usually happens every time a team changes its manager they seem to be able to find some extra cash for the new man. IMO Levein will probably use the loan system and possibly bring in a couple of younger players from the premiership, the only permanaent deals will arise if he can do some wheeling and dealing. We have a lot of players out of contract at the end of the season, dont be surprised if some of these are allowed to leave around xmas / January for small fees, this would then allow Levein to bring in some players in similar circumstances. Possible Outs : Scowcroft, Elliott, Benjamin, Dublin, Blake, Gemmill. Possible Ins: De Vries, Maybury, Pressley All could happen as Hearts will be out of Europe by then and all these players would be allowed to leave on frees or for small fees, plus we may be able to get rid some of our higher earners as well.

step Posted 6 November 2004 Posted 6 November 2004 Who in the right mind is going to give us anything for Dublin or Blake, they will sap city for every penny they can and I doubt we will see the lazy gits again. Levien wont let scowy leave, he may keep gremmil. We may get a couple of quid for benji and gremmill but nothing that will excite levien. I am afraid that if levein wants new players the club are going to have to dig deep and come up with the cash,
Hoof Fox Posted 6 November 2004 Posted 6 November 2004 I dont want to see Scowy leave either but if a club comes in offering decent money then it may be he has to be sacrificed to enable to 2-3 players to come in. Also look beyond transfer fees, some of the players I have mentioned will be on very good wages, so by moving them out it will free up space in the budget for Levein to bring in his own players.

IMO.
Ash Posted 6 November 2004 Posted 6 November 2004 I think the club will give him about £200k to spend on players , Hopefully a board member will fork out a bit of wedge !

Foxes_Trust Posted 7 November 2004 Posted 7 November 2004 I think the club will give him about £200k to spend on players , Hopefully a board member will fork out a bit of wedge ! 33748[/snapback] It doesn't work like that. Bearing in mind the club will have to have paid compensation to Hearts & maybe other clubs for new coaching staff, plus pay off those leaving, we really can't see any money being available until next summer. If somebody was sold then it would be possible, but his options are limited unless he feels a particular player isn't suited to what he wants to do & they would attract bids from other managers. Those on long term high wages contracts just can't see going, as nobody will pay the same wage, unless a Matt Elliot to Ipswich deal like last season is done where another club pays part of a players wages for the rest of the season, releasing the equivalant wage saving to pay a loan player. Depends on Levein's views on loan players but that would seem the most likely option. Unless Gemmill plays a staring role in the next few weeks, we can't see him being retained given Levein's views on the age of the squad he wants.
Ric Flair Posted 8 November 2004 Posted 8 November 2004 I think you will find that if Dublin, Blake, Dabizas or Makin were told by Levein that they were surplus to requirements they could get another team this season. I doubt these boys would want to sit in the reserves for the rest of the season either so even if they had to take a small pay-cut they would do. Coventry would have Dublin. Rotherham, Burnley or Gillingham would have Blake and there would be a few european mugs that would take Dabizas no problem. There's a combined save of about £20,000 per week. Bye, bye.
