Dr The Singh Posted 5 June 2006 Posted 5 June 2006 1535: WICKET ENGLAND 125-6 Collingwood 9 A bizarre dismissal as Muralitharan's off-break keeps very low, Collingwood plays it off his own toe and it bounces up for short-leg to pounce again. A referral to the third umpire confirms that it's number six for Muralitharan and he must be odds-on to claim all 10 at this rate! Lucky to hold now. Were screwed!!!!!

Steven Posted 5 June 2006 Posted 5 June 2006 1614: WICKET ENGLAND 132-7 Jones 6 The Muralitharan doosra does the trick again, turning the opposite way to a traditional off-break and bowling Jones to make it seven out of seven. You have to fancy his chances of the magical 10 now with Hoggard, Lewis and Panesar to come.
The People's Hero Posted 5 June 2006 Posted 5 June 2006 Come on Murali - get all ten. At that level I doubt if fielders would deliberately drop a ball to enable another bowler to take the wicket but I'd be ordering my lot to do that
The People's Hero Posted 5 June 2006 Posted 5 June 2006 Muralitharan at one stage took four for seven runs in 31 balls, including the scalps of Andrew Flintoff and Kevin Pietersen in the same over. Wicket to wicket, he took six for 13 off 69 balls. Arguably a spinners wicket, but that's phenomenal.
Ultra Posted 5 June 2006 Posted 5 June 2006 Today again proved that most of our batsmen are absolutely clueless when playing against quality spinners. If the Aussies had played Stuart MacGill instead of Tait or Kasprowicz last summer, they'd probably have kept the Ashes. I doubt they'll make that mistake when we tour over there later in the year... Oh, and we should resist the temptation to drop Monty if/when the Wheelie Bin is fit. We need a spinner who can actually take wickets, not merely hold up an end. As long as Monty can carry on his work on his fielding issues, there shouldn't be a problem.
The People's Hero Posted 5 June 2006 Posted 5 June 2006 Today again proved that most of our batsmen are absolutely clueless when playing against quality spinners. Correct. Been a problem for probably at least 10 years now. I just don't think there are enough quality spinners in our domestic game and our batsmen just seem bamboozled and completely overwhelmed when they come up against quality spinners. Thorpey was probably the one over the past 10 or so years who looked comfortable against quality spin. If the Aussies had played Stuart MacGill instead of Tait or Kasprowicz last summer, they'd probably have kept the Ashes. Not sure about that... but certainly agree that England batsmen would have been more vulnerable against spin than again seam/raw pace. Gillespie certainly shouldn't have got any games. I doubt they'll make that mistake when we tour over there later in the year... We'll see. I'm not familiar with their selection system but I don't think they give too much consideration to opposition in the normal case. Arrogance. They'll want the Ashes back though. I'd expect them to play only one 'full time' spinner, but you might be right Oh, and we should resist the temptation to drop Monty if/when the Wheelie Bin is fit. We need a spinner who can actually take wickets, not merely hold up an end. As long as Monty can carry on his work on his fielding issues, there shouldn't be a problem. Couldn't agree more.
Nationwider Posted 5 June 2006 Posted 5 June 2006 Is it just me, or is it time to give Chris Read another chance behind the stumps? Jones isn't doing it with the bat and there's no case to answer in terms of who's the best keeper. I'd echo the sentiments of the pro-Monty crew. The guy takes wickets - Gilo might be a better bat, but with Harmy and Jones back before too long, that should shorten the tail a bit. We can hide the Turbanator down at 11 behind Hoggers. The Aussies will rip the piss out of him though, so he'd better buck up his ideas in the field. I'll been a bit out of the loop this week. Why was Sajid Mahmood not selected? Is he cream-crackered?

The Turbinator ((UK edition),... Harbhajan Singh is the original) will be fine, the guy where's a turban and I know he has faced abuse, including racial before. He's not very flexible, hence his fielding is crap, with the correct training and coaching he will do well!!! England to me, never seem to peform as a unit, individual errors and players let them down and often lack depth aswell!!!
