The 'Carrick In' campaign starts now. Someone to knock the ball about and release either Gerrard or Lampard to go forward. Someone to give a bit of rhythm to midfield. Someone to add £20m to his valuation so that when Manure eventually buy him it will cost them big style.

Owen. he's not fit. I would go to 4-5-1 with Carrick playing the holiding/link up role in front of the back four. Cole and Beckham out wide with Lampard central and Gerraid getting much futher forward. I'd play Crouch as a lone striker until Rooney is fit, but his role would be to hold it up to allow the midfield to be brought into play.

Surely not after the paraguay game, we were great when owen was on but when he went of crouch was too isolated and it was pointless in him winning all of the headers

I don't think we looked good at any stage during the match. Owen was a bit player and choked when he had half a chance. He is only good when he gets behind a defence by virtue of his pace, and that's a long way off just yet. He is definitely not fit or confident right now.

We need to design a style of play quickly that holds the ball and makes the opposition do a bit of work, and Carrick is good at that. Too many long hopeful balls that are energy sapping will get us nowhere. Sitting back and soaking up pressure is a recipe for disaster.

Assuming he does it and it works who will you drop when Rooney is fit? I can't see Ronney as the lone striker.

Too many long balls because Crouch the beanpole is up front. Take him out of the equation and you'd think that the England players would realise that they need to pass it through midfield instead of lumping it forward.

That said, I'd drop Lampard for Carrick - with Gerrard playing his normal role. Gerrard and Lampard will not work, you take too much out of Gerrard's game by making him play defensive. And I don't buy that crap about Lampard and Gerrard 'taking it in turns to push forward', Gerrard only gets near the opposition penalty area whenever we have a set piece.

Anyway, Carrick shouldn't be the player to be brought in, we all know Owen 'arse' Hargreaves is the midfield dynamo who is pivotal to Bayern Munich. He's the quality midfielder that should be starting ;)

Beckenbauer said that it's been unthinkable for Bayern to start without Hargreaves this season because he's been so important for them.

Not my words I hasten to add.

Ha

I feel sorry for Hargreaves a bit because Sven especially likes to bring him on when we decide it's a brilliant idea to defend for the last 40 minutes so he's generally playing when England look shit anyway, which doesn't help him.

But he's still not that fantastic, squad player ok, he can play in a variety of places, but Carrick over him anyday of the week.
