Elvis Hammond - Left Wing?

Recommended Posts

We only have 2 players in the squad that can realistically play left wing, Tiatto (god help) and Stephen Hughes (at a push). We have 5 strikers and although Hammond is definitely the fastest he couldnt score in a brothel.

He came on against Ipswich on the left wing at Portman Road and looked terrible but then that game was a bad performance all round.

Maybe RK's secret plan is to unleash Hammond as a winger as we havent signed anyone to play left and we havent got rid of him? He has the pace to worry a right back just needs to get practicing in training now!

Problem 1 he's rubbish

Problem 2 he's the most right sided player ever

Problem 3 Even Tiatto would put in a much better performance

Rob Kelly will not play Elvis Hammond Left wing it will be Danny Tiatto, we know this the management have said he will play 30+ games.

To be brutally honest it pains me to read and hear fans trying to work out how we are going to fit a 4-4-2 system with the players we've got, but the problem is that it's pretty evident that that's what Kelly is going to do.

Looking at the squad of players it's not looking good. We have far too many defenders and far too many central players.

I would play a 4-3-3 and a proper 4-3-3, no 4-5-1 bollocks.

Defence can be picked from the portfolio of defenders Kelly has built up, 2 attacking full-backs would be nice but we only have one and he's a centre half come right back.

In the midfield i'd play Johnson, Wesolowski and either Hughes or Williams. Probably Hughes as he's more attacking and has experience drifting wide if need be.

Then upfront i'd play Fryatt, Hume and O'Grady. Fryatt's main task is to stay central and be in and around the box. Hume can drop deep and feed in the other strikers and midfielders. O'Grady's role would be very much the role he plays when he came on last season, mixing it up either through the middle or drifting out wide to stretch the defence allowing both Fryatt and Hume more space.

Forget wingers, let's play to our strengths.

When it comes to defend and we have no width then i've not got an answer to that, but with Wesolowski and Stearman being very agile and quick to the ball we could make sure they can cover un-marked areas. Tiatto at left back? He's crap but he likes to play all over the park and one of his best attributes is that he's very good at coming forward to fill vacant spaces on the pitch, so if we got caught on the break down that side he could snap some legs.

Nice vision, however like you say we're going to go 4-4-2 and there aint much we can do about it. <_<

Shame. Italy showed last night you don't need wingers to play decent counter-attacking football. Would suit us too to play Johnson, Weso, Williams and Hughes in midfield? Problem being I can't see Johansson being quite as effective bombing forward as Grosso or Zambrotta.

Agreed, different class of fooballers when comparing ours to the italians. I can't see RK doing any major surprises with the formation or line up, people like Hammond are just going to have to sit on the bench and wait for there turn!!

TBH I can't stand counter-attacking football, I don't know why Liverpool proved it was very successful, but I just find it sooo negative and boring!!!:yawn:

I think in the style Italy played it last night, it is the perfect way to play football. Defend in numbers, snap into the tackle and break in numbers with pace.

Nah, Newcastle under KK...

The "You score 4, we'll score 5" attitude!!!

The above way is Arsenal all over...

All I know is that last night was one of the most enthralling games of football I've seen for ages and Newcastle didn't win anything playing that way ;)

True, but as I didn't support them I didn't really care. But you really can't compare last night's 0-0 to Liverpool Newcastle 4-3!!! Best game ever!!!
