Totally random, but there you are. I'm sure someone will know this, how long do cheques actually take to cash nowdays? I always remember being told 10 working days by my parents when I was younger, but that seems to be a hugely long time in the world of modern, er, technology.

Any ideas?

Usually about 3 working days I think unless it's from or to a building society they seem to take about 3 weeks to clear a cheque!!

Cash.... you can "cash" them immediatley :D , I take it you mean clear, which depends entirely on your bank. Standerd is 3-5 working days, some building societys ( Hinkley and Rugby for example ) can take up to 10 working days. Some banks like HSBC allow you to draw on the funds before they are clear, sometimes as early as the next day, of course if the cheque bounce your bollocksed :D

Righto, sound. All my housemates want to give me cheques for the payment on the 8th (first Monday of the month) 'cos they're all focking off somewhere. Didn't want to end up, after cashing the cheques on Monday, a week later, be sat grinning stupidly at the landlord.

Deposit the cheque then withdraw the cash from the rest of your balance in your account.
