Ric Flair Posted 23 November 2004 Posted 23 November 2004 I think it's time Levein got Williams back in to the first team, let's hope these two reserve outings are just to get his fitness back. Now before you all say he's been ineffective this season, so have alot of our players before Levein took over. I can't see how Gemmill warrants a starting place or a place on the bench over Williams who on his day is the best passer in this league in my opinion. I hope Gaz puts in 110% tonight alongside Dawson and they both stake a claim for the first team as they are our future. Gemmill won't be here much longer and Nalis is possibly going back home so thoughts need to be cast on the long term future of our midfield and Williams, Gudjonsson and Dawson all seem great players for this level. Who know's if they are premiership class, but wit age on their side and talent they could well be. Gareth back in on saturday please.
Benji Posted 23 November 2004 Posted 23 November 2004 i rate gareth very highly, things he gets attacked for such as not tackling don't worry me as we were warned when we got him that he doesn't go for tackles but on the ball and making runs he is a very classy player and i'd play him with nalis preferably

I'd go with Williams and Gudjonsson/Dawson, if we're going to play him.

Nalis and Williams would both be too attacking and we would lose the ball way too much in the Midle of the park. Where as Joey would tackle and sit Deep.
Ash Posted 23 November 2004 Posted 23 November 2004 Gareth Williams , has not had the best of starts here but he his one of the best midfielders in the Championship ! All he needs is to be played with the right player alongside him and we will see the best from him ....Also a good manager who will bring the best from him
Benji Posted 23 November 2004 Posted 23 November 2004 yes but i don't see how you can leave either of the two out unless playing with 3 in centre with joey inbetween the two...
Ash Posted 23 November 2004 Posted 23 November 2004 Ive always said play the three Joey-Nalis-Williams, Then two wing backs
Benji Posted 23 November 2004 Posted 23 November 2004 Ive always said play the three Joey-Nalis-Williams, Then two wing backs 39115 stewart and canero all sorted then....
Cobbo Posted 23 November 2004 Posted 23 November 2004 Ive always said play the three Joey-Nalis-Williams, Then two wing backs 39115 stewart and canero all sorted then.... 39174 So no Tiatto? Sort it out lads
Cobbo Posted 23 November 2004 Posted 23 November 2004 He's injured 39180 Joey is suspended..... You were clearly talking about our overall best 11, which obviously has to have Tiatto in
Ash Posted 23 November 2004 Posted 23 November 2004 Maybe he could play in the back three with Heath and Keown then ?
Benji Posted 23 November 2004 Posted 23 November 2004 defense...... taylor ---------heath/dabizas keown tiatto---------- canero--------------------------------stewart ----------williams---joey---nalis------------- ---------------connolly------morris------------ sort it out cobbo!
Cobbo Posted 23 November 2004 Posted 23 November 2004 Maybe he could play in the back three with Heath and Keown then ? 39188 smallest centre back ever! He could play as a left wing back ahead of Stewart or in the midfield 3... Certainly has to play
Scow Posted 24 November 2004 Posted 24 November 2004 I can't see Levein changing the formation. I think he'll play Nalis with Williams. I think you can get away with playing those two at home because the onus is on us to attack, but when we play away, we certainly need someone in there like Gudjonsson, or preferably Dawson to battle away, win back the ball, and initiate attacks.
Scarby Posted 25 November 2004 Posted 25 November 2004 I cant believe people are saying play Dawson, OK he has played well for the resys but that in no way means he is good enough for the first team. We have got quite a strong midfield each player with their own strong qualities and i cant see Dawson making a difference yet, by all means bring him on as a sub and see how he does but dont start him.
MADLEVEIN Posted 25 November 2004 Posted 25 November 2004 williams will be a different player , under adams the ball was going straight over his head every five minutes so he couldnt show his ability.

If you have been watching him this season then I apologise, but being is Scarborough and getting down here to watch the ressies would be impressive! It's hard breaking through as a youngster, but your chances improve greatly when you play well for the reserves and that your first team are having problems in your favoured position. We are crying out for a midfield talisman who is a great tackler and does the simple things well, also this lad has unbelievable energy and is good going forward if need be. Plays football similar to Roy Keane and I think we need someone to come in to our side who's young and has no respect for anybody. Gudjonsson is a tidy player, but he hasn't got that presence to boss the midfield I don't think. He might get better, but at the minute I don't think he playing to his full potential. So if everything is chosen on merit perhaps Dawson deserves the chance, Levein wants youngsters being bought through. Dawsons our man.

It's hard to accept someone's viewpoint about a player if they've never seen him play. Dawson is a special talent, anyone who's seen him play can confirm that. He has all the attributes for an all round midfield player. From watching both Dawson and Gudjonsson, I have to say that Dawson looks more composed on the ball and uses it better. You often see Gudjonsson trying to twat passes to the forwards, or take ridicolous, wasteful free kicks. Although he is competitive and gets about, he's not always that effective.

And if he has been playing well why hasnt he had a run out?

I don't know the reasoning behind him leaving the club, but he apparently didn't have the application to make it.
Ric Flair Posted 25 November 2004 Author Posted 25 November 2004 Petrescu levelled out over the past year or so and didn't push on like he should of done. I don't think there was any doubting of Petrescu's talent, but everyone know's it often takes more than talent to break through in to a team in the top division in england (2nd highest league currently!) Dawson is currently on form and at 19 I think he is the right age to be introduced, he's been playing extremely well for over a year now and it's only fair he's rewarded with some first team action. Stearman is so good for his age and not many 17 year old's play regularly at first team level in the league we are in but he's definately good enough to and I think it's only a matter of time before both get their chance. This can only be good news for the club as potentially we have two players who could be worth a few million each and when was the last time we had players in our team worth money?
