Craig Posted 4 September 2006 Author Posted 4 September 2006 Leicester band Kasabian completed a remarkable rise to fame when their new album 'Empire' crashed into the official UK charts at number one on Sunday. The news was announced at 7pm on Radio One - with the Blaby lads fighting off challenges from Bob Dylan and Snow Patrol to claim the top spot. Kasabian's eponymously titled debut album sold over 1.2 million copies worldwide, but never made it to the top of the charts. But now the band can boast to having a number one album under their belts as they prepare to set off on their UK tour in the autumn. A City spokesman said: "We would like to congratulate Kasabian on this phenomenal achievement. "To come from virtually nowhere to having a number one album in just two years is an amazing feat. "They have worked incredibly hard to get to where they are today and they deserve all the success they are currently receiving." Kasabian will celebrate the news by playing a secret gig in Leicester this evening (Monday). Special wristband passes to the event were made available to fans at HMV in the city centre from 8am this morning. A signing session will then take place at the store at 5:30pm ahead of the gig itself. Both Serge (pictured left) and Tom (right) are lifelong Leicester fans and visit the Walkers Stadium to watch the Foxes in action whenever their busy work schedule allows. :w00t: :w00t:

Craig Posted 5 September 2006 Author Posted 5 September 2006 Where was it held? Leicester Uni, but the stage was brought forwards so it was more intimate. The Mercury says there were 500 people there, it was closer to 250.

Craig Posted 7 September 2006 Author Posted 7 September 2006 You ain't seen me, right It's not naughty anyway, as it was broadcast on radio anyway
hairy Posted 7 September 2006 Posted 7 September 2006 It's not naughty anyway, as it was broadcast on radio anyway It depends if any of them are available commercially. As some of their releases have live recordings on them it could be seen that they are available commercially. Recording of the radio is illegal.
